Youtube is dead

it may be simple For those of us already deeply engaged with hunting. But for those who are just Beginning it’s not so easy to separate sound tactics from click bait. And then there’s the matter of how all these productions are viewed by the non hunting public. Youlube is the epitome of a double edged sword: in one hand it’a a great gift that there’s so much information out there and available to anyone who wants to watch and on the other hand when all that info is taken out of context it can be quite misleading.
Agreed 100%.

Oh my. Ok. Boom... second income idea. If watching a couple eat dinner is good then watching a 9-person family try not to kill each other at the dinner table is better. Am I right?
Hmmm Jon and Kate Plus 8. Already been done. Might need to find a new angle. Not to mention the Kardashians and the Duggars. I know you a family man. Happy families and reality TV don’t merge well. But I’m just some dude on the the internet.

yeah but none of them shot Trad bows as a family. ;)

To me, I tune out when it becomes apparent that the love of the sport of hunting has been surpassed by the love of likes and subscriptions.

I’ve been listening to Matt Rinella’s podcast Hunt Quietly. They discuss killing for content. They have a kill count for social media hunters and some of the numbers are absurd. I realize some people legitimately eat a lot of game and donate meat. But some of those hunters have like 50+ kills over a season. A couple were Cam Hanes and John Dudley.

I tend to like the channels where the hunting is not the persons primary, and sole means of income. Dan Infalt may work for himself now since the Beast Stand thing is up and running but you can tell that he is stretched pretty thin with work and can't get in the woods as much as he wants still. Catman has kept things pretty consistent and still works as a delivery driver. He hunts around his schedule. That sort of thing seems to keep the channels "grounded" in reality. Catman does go out of state but his out of state hunts are the kind that pretty much any regular guy or gal could pull off, like 2 hours down the road to a neighboring state for the weekend. I think THP sort of lost that when they got big enough to hunt 24/7 and all moved to premier whitetail states. When you have to get interns "and actually call them interns" that should be a clue you are straying from the formula that got you there in the first place.

I watch youtube often as a tool and/or entertainment and pay for premium because the amount of time that I save is worth much more to me than $10/month. I watch/use youtube for all my interests as you cannot get that type of grassroots, granular content covering such a wide array of topics anywhere else. I have never been a regular watcher of hunting show's until youtube as they were all too gimmicky. If I am looking entertainment I will usually check all my subscriptions for their latest content and if it looks interesting I will watch. If I find a subscription has run out of steam I will be less likely to watch a new one unless the topic catches my interest. I think that THP is realizing that they are heading towards strapping on Fonzie's water ski's, which is why they have created the separate podcast youtube channel which has had some good content on it.

I would say my use of Youtube is relatively conscious, I'm selecting what I want to watch when I want to watch it, primarily via search. Usually, my consumed content is based off an education/information direction. Although, it's become oddly satisfying to watch someone make a knife from scratch (lately) lol.

Every once in a while the algorithm throws me something cool. This came up randomly and I found it pretty entertaining.

He also has a video on making one.

Thanks, now I have another possible hobby to get into. I already have a hunting blow gun that I was proficient with but never took any game with yet. Now I'm gonna wanna make a sling too.

I've tried this, but only with a tennis ball. Imagine getting whacked in the head!

Y'all ever watch Catman Outdoors?

I saw him on YT a couple years ago, he was squirrel hunting from a canoe. He's a meat hunter. I think we might be related, absolutely love watching that kid. He's a doe-killing machine, donates his deer to Hunters for the Hungry.
