Permethrin

I started using it religiously this year. I have two friends that are suffering from Lymes and one friend from a new red meat allergy disease spread by ticks, and they may never make a full recovery. There is so much misinformation on lymes and they are learning more and more each year - some they don't publish. It is now being commonly accepted that lymes might be able to be spread to your SPOUSE/girlfriend. And many other diseases might actually be caused by lymes. Guys you have to take ticks seriously.

I've been using permethrin for a handful of years now. Stuff really works!

Any concern using it on scentlok clothing? Or any scent concerns with it?
My plan is to apply it to my camo hunting jeans and shirts that I wear under my scentlok. Hopefully that will keep them off my skin. I typically pack my scentlok in and put it on at the base of the tree. Probably more likely to get ticks on you during the walk in and out than actually hanging in the tree anyway.

I would assume it would negatively effect the scent elimination of the carbon...

I agree with the above comment of applying it to base layers.

What about the smell of the chemical itself. I never applied it to hunting gear, only work gear because it smells strong. do you think you are giving up some scent elimination by using it? Maybe that is just the trade off.

“Scent elimination” or Lymes/Rocky Mountain SF/ Alpha Gow your call. Or cancer from the Permethrin. Choices choices

I had asked a question on here a little over a week ago when I went to one of the locations that is what I considered to be infested with chiggers and ticks. I think I may have even mentioned that a year prior, in the spring my wife and I was hiking in the same area, taking photos, we came across a fawn, that I thought had its eye poked out and or damaged in some fashion, I do have pic of it, we blew the photos up on the big screen when we go home, and its eye was swollen shut with tons of ticks on its eye lid etc. That same weekend, the wife and I pulled over 50 some odd ticks off each of us and had numerous chigger bites. Now back up to roughly a week ago on a finally scouting prior to season, I got eat up with ticks and chiggers again. Over 50 some odd bites from head to toe., I then asked for advice on here.
After reading all the advice from many on here, I purchased some sawyers and some martins. I treated my clothes. Went out yesterday for one more final scout, sit and glass style on a ridge a pretty good ways aways, I treated my socks, tank top, long camo sleeve shirt, blue jeans and boots,. Got home from scouting yesterday and not one single tick or chigger, waking up this morning, not one single chigger or tick on me. I am sure like anything in life there is a calculated risk, just like with most meds, sometimes the cure may be worse than the aliment, but with the wife and my dad both having tick issues, from limes disease and rocky mounted spotted fever, whatever risk could be associated with the sawyers or martins to me is less than what the ticks my give you and or a solid week of chigger itches. (Last fall my wife got bite by one of the seed ticks and she got sick for about 2 weeks, doctors tested her and said it wasn't limes disease, or rocky mountain spotted fever, the doctor went onto say they can only test for a few tick related sicknesses and there are way more out there than what the medical technology can actually test for)
I will follow up with this and not sure if anyone else has experienced this or not, so we shall see if anyone reply, But it did start raining on me yesterday while I was out. When I walked through some water about knee high, I could smell a faint smell of the chemicals in the sawyers almost like it smells when applying it. So not sure it if reactivates when wet, or if I just have a sensitive nose., or if it was just coincidence. But I could smell it when it was soaking wet, the smell went away or I got used to it, so not sure which. it was light,. I will also say, i treated the clothes last Friday, hung them up to dry, they were completely dry by the time I used them. I will be adding a short video of this and how well it worked for me. I hope you get the answers you need and keep us posted on what you decide. Excellent question, and have a blessed hunting season my friend.

Sawyers Permethrin is what I use. Seems to me I have less skeeters bothering me too. Appears to works for several weeks. I won't go in the woods without my clothes sprayed. I had Lymes back in the 90's and it took me years to get over that.....Tried the farm store variety Permethrin one season - thought the petroleum like smell went away after a few days - didn't see a deer for the first 8 sits or so - never used it again and went back to seeing deer on a regular basis lol

I have been using permethrin for over 10 years and swear by it. All of the brands I have used specifically indicate that it can be used on clothing and gear.

I didn’t read this post before exploring a new farm my buddy and I just secured permission to hunt on.

Needless to say I now have a stash of Sawyer’s and I think we must have run into the motherlode o chiggers. That’s the reason I’m posting at 2:10 AM.

I used sawyers during turkey season. Without it I picked off over 30 ticks from one scouting mission, with my clothes sprayed .... zero. I will use it. And as far as cancer, it’s not like we are in contact with it all the time. Maybe when you spray it but once it’s dried I think you’re good.

My hunt club has a workday mid September every year. I'm always itching and scratching for two weeks after that. This year I treated my clothes with Permethrin and not a single issue. I mixed my own from the concentrate at TSC.

I don't leave home without it! Zero ticks and chiggers (less mosquitoes) when using treated clothes and much cheaper when using concentrate from Tractor Supply. Been using it for over 20 years and kick myself when I get lazy and don't take treated clothing on scouting trips. Use DEET in that case.

That’s the truth. My wife has chronic Lyme’s as well as 2 other tick spread diseases. Once you see how sick it can make you and the doctors tell you there is very little that can be done to help with your symptoms you start taking tick prevention very seriously.

They don’t sell it in Canada. My area is full of Lyme. More than 50% of tested ticks were positive. You can buy DEET here but I stay away from long grass etc. Always, Always do a tic check at home.
