The Wraptor

@Bwhana can you post a pic or vid of it in use? How is the comfort?
I know you've done some cool things around sit drags. I tried one and never liked it. This feels way better to me. Would love to see you apply your skills and make it even better!

Is that the same length as the Anderson?

I bought a big buck sling that looks exactly like the Anderson and did basically the same mod you have done. Problem is, my waist belt is as tight as it can go and the rings are basically touching each other. I'd almost have to shorten it 4-6" before the rings sit just past my hips.

It is close to the original width at 36" end to end of each web loop. The rings will be about 10" or so apart when the belt is attached. I pulled them together thinking about that today. Not as far apart as a Mantis or Kestrel, but usable.

Interested in how you attach the waist belt. Liking the idea of using the same rings for your linesman hook up. Great thread, thanks for sharing!

@Bwhana thx for the pic. I can see the benefits of being able to adjust the width. Additionally, you do not get any scrunching of material at the hips. Slick idea. Looking forward to your comments after you sit in it for a bit and shift your position repeatedly. Will the belts stay in place.

I think regular harnesses cause comfort issues because of the fixed loops and the shape of the harness. It looks to me that the pull of a harness is up high, at waist height. This is probably what is causing that feeling of them riding up. The sitdrag does not have that issue because it is just a rectangle, so equal pull from the top and bottom. But, there still is the issue of the scrunch. I am dealing with it by adding battens at the ends. Your solution is not forced because everything curves naturally to a center point.

Very slick idea. Great job! Pete

IMHO, If you are having an issue with a saddle riding up your back you are fighting gravity (a losing battle) there are two adjustments to fix that. 1) lower you tether, 2) slide the support underneath your rear-end more. If moving the saddle further underneath you makes you uncomfortable, then add a RCH for added safety.

@DaveT1963 hit the comfort highlights spot on! I read your previous posts on it and saw a video you did , and witnessed that with the Mantis and Kite at Saddlepalooza and it applies to the Wraptor. I like it best with both loops set low. @Peterk1234 - I have spent about 3 hours tree time testing and I have not experienced any significant movement of the webbing nor any riding up that I felt with all of the current commercial options. I have been bouncing, swinging, and hanging upside down to test it and it has stayed in place throughout.

This thing gets more comfortable with each sit! I added a temporary tubular bridge and a 2" nylon web belt and buckle today from a repurposed Alyce pack belt. I sewed it to the upper portion of the upper loop about an inch from the end center point on each side. As the pics show, way too long, so I will be trimming those and sewing new stops on the ends. The rings are far enough apart with the belt cinched tight that I am good with using them as both linesman and bridge connection points. Amsteel is on the way for a permanent bridge. Once I get that spliced on, I will start some testing at height.

I feel stupid but I'll ask anyways.. From the pics ot looks like you have two identical "slings" coming through both 25kn eyes, is that correct? Just making sure I am seeing what I think I am.

That is correct. Stupid simple, yet safe design. I just wasn't willing to pay $150 for an antique version and wanted the experience of making one. It buys me time to see what the new commercial options are and not be in rush to get one. The way this is going, I may not want one!

Likebit! View attachment 10867Looks like my modded anderson....
Yours was one of the pics I stumbled across while researching making mine in February and gave inspiration to do this, thanks! I was going to reference it but had trouble finding it again. I looked at those Petzl rings but went with solid since they were cheaper and could be sewn in while making it. That allowed me to cut weight and use the rings for everything vs having the oval rings plus the rounds. Nothing revolutionary in mine, just trying to document the process, materials, and measurements for anyone wanting their own. If a computer geek like me can do this, anyone can.

You got me. Materials ordered, looks great! Also ordered some additional webbing to make a bridge for the tree suit I got from @Vtbow. With all the great ideas here think I am up to about a dozen different systems now.....

Congrats on that treesuit! I saw it as soon as he put it up and almost sent a PM 10x to buy it! I had this project underway so I held off, but that was a great deal. If you use my measurements, you will notice the 10" overlaps. It was not on the original Anderson's, but I thought it added more stitching area and made it even safer. The other thing is that if I make another, I may make the top loop an inch or half inch shorter than the bottom so it would fit even better up higher on the lower back, but not a problem as is. Post pics!
