What gun do you hunt with?

Pre 64 model 70's, but only if I'm invited to private land to shoot over food plots. Pre 64 Model 12's for birds. Model 62 .22 mag for varmints .Otherwise it's bow only. Might pack a.223 pistol for pigs while I bow hunt...

Marlin 336, the ultimate fudd gun. Or my grandpa’s old Remington 742 carbine 30-06 he gave me when I was 12. That gun has killed more deer than I can begin to imagine. There’s newer and fancier guns/calibers but I’m fond of the old faithfuls.

For the past few years I've been using my 7mmSTW w/162gr. A-Max's. I did get me another doe with the Mini, last year during doe days, though.

I carry a BAR 30-06 when I saddle hunt the oaks and when I sit a box stand on lines or food plots I carry a 280 Ackley Imp. or a 300 WM both built on blue printed 700 actions. The saddle in the CRP/WRP generally gets the 30/30 but this year I may carry the little T3 in 338 federal.

I’ve killed deer and hogs with everything from a M44 Mosin Nagant, Yugo 24/47 8mm Mauser, 30/30 M94 (Mossberg M94 clone) to a TC Impact muzzleloader. All handloads.

Now I mostly use my cheapie Fleet Farm scoped combo Savage Axis 30-06. Shooting a 130gr Barnes TTSX at close to 3200 fps (yes really). It’s like a .30 caliber 25-06. Lightning bolt!

Easy. Wake up to a pouring rain on a cold, rut day and think about milky finishes, and split stocks. ;)

Pfft....hunt smarter not with an ugly gun.

Historically you’d find me with a savage 110 30-06 with a Nikon monarch 2-8x. While I love this rifle, today you’d likely find me with a tikka t3x in 308. Topped with a Leica Er 2.5-10x.

The savage is probably a little better shooter, but the tikka is better balanced, cleans up a lot easier, and doesn’t suck all the copper off the bullets like the savage does. I reload, and the savage likes hotter loads which my shoulder isn’t as fond of, especially Michigan woods hunting.

If I walking around scouting, or hunting in the brush it’s a Rossi 92 44mag 20” with a large peep rear sight.

Out east where I live we’re shotgun only for deer so I’m running a Savage 220 with a Leupold 3-9x40. I’ll run the same for black bears. Other critters, I’ll use other tools.
