Here we go again...I bought all the components from DanO. Rather spread my money with a true USA made product and a Christian to boot. I'm going to update the post thru each step of the process. Heres why I chose DanOs stick components. First the stand offs provide that needed distance between the tree and the double step. Second, us old guys love DIY and bring added fabrication ideas so all of us can benefit. I'll keep the photos coming

Ok...these sticks are ready for Iowa trip this week...the slots on the bottom allow the standoffs to lock into the back of the stick. Now the sticks can be placed side to side flat. I also put a 1/4 x20 threaded rod to hold them together20190819_204408.jpg20190820_162709.jpg20190820_162643.jpg

I have a set of 4 made with all of doublesteps.com components. And they are sweet! They do stack tall and I’m trying to work around that but still searching for the answer. I may just stack 2 on each side of my pack

I'm heading to Alabama today to take my son to college and wont be back until monday nite but I'll be working on them nxt week
Roll Tide!

Can't wait to see what you are working on. Love my EWO sticks (with LW standoffs).

I like where this is going.

UPDATE...ok been working on my free time before work and after..to get these sticks prepped for deburring and countersinking the 1/2" holes. You'll notice I've incorporated using a lobe knob in front of the step. That's where the dynamics change for this stick...I'm going to post the prototype sometime before Thursday since I'm leaving for Iowa to put them thru the paces....they should be complete nxt week when I return...

Any way to stack them with the two standoffs toward each other so each stack of two would be tighter to fit on each side of your pack? I did it with Heliums, but not sure about the way these go together.

That does work and put 2 on each side of pack. I’m heading to SC Thursday and I’m bringing the LWCG strictly due to the packability. But once I’m hunting local, I’ll most likely be using my dano sticks. Curious how Silvio is using this button on the step!

The standoffs will be able to rotate from perpendicular to horizontal. I'm machining slots for the standoff feet. Once you loosen the knobs and rotate the standoff to the parallel position the sticks can stack flat and tight

I like those knobs ALOT better than the wingnuts some guys were using to do this

I would definitely drop a wingnut in leaves or briars & not find it

Ya. But its more for the ability to rotate the standoffs so you can stack the sticks flat

Yeah they loosen the nut and rotate everything parallel with the tube

Then stack flat side by side like LWCG sticks

I would need to paint wing nuts glow-in-the-dark or fluorescent to find if I dropped but this knob is definitely the way to go I think

I like where you are heading with it, trusted my life on knobs like those for many years on climbing stands! Just an out of the box thought, may not even be practical or feasible, but what if you could eliminate the middle versa and connect the stick using those knobs as double versas too? It would add an extra rope or versa strap to each stick, but would also eliminate the possibility of a kick out by having a top and bottom connection to the tree. Just throwing it on the chalkboard for brainstorming.

Man that's a great thought Bwhana, I use these knobs on all of woodworking jigs in my woodshop...I've got several stick prototypes from years past but this one will seal the deal....I met DanO last week and he showed me his versa straps which I like...I'll give your thought some practical field testing and let you know how that works
