Scent control sprays

I normally use them. I have had deer walk across my path, 10 yards down wind of my stand, without smelling me and i have been busted plenty too.
I am in the middle ground of scent control where i use rubber boots and scentlok gear, but just dont have the time or inclination to go to John Eberhart levels of scent control.

My thoughts, they work to some extent but if you think you can douse your street clothes and be 100% scent free you will be disappointed.

Part of my confidence in them comes from when i played Hockey in highschool and would treat my gear (which reaked!) in the spray. it was the only thing that got rid of the odor. I'd leave it outside and spray it down and a few hrs later no more smelly gear.

I like too hunt after work greatly increases Time in the woods I am not scent free so I have been using spray with some success and always use rubber boots ,trying not to touch any vegetation on the way in and still get busted from time to time

I no longer use spray since I switched to ozone. After using different sprays and testing on things like old shoes and such, it seemed to me that the homemade stuff was as good or better than store bought. Just distilled water, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and scent away green shampoo.

If you make your don’t tighten the cap until it has time to ferment. Gasses will be released from baking soda a peroxide

Oops! Glad you mentioned that! I forgot once and it blew the top off of an old milk jug.

I use spray. I use O3. I use chlorophyll. I shower. I prune entrance trails. And I use milkweed and try to hunt the wind. Im an "all of the above" odor reduction guy. Every little bit helps, but NOTHING is 100%.
I had Dead Downwind spray several years ago that did not work in our testing. I contacted DDW, and they did inform me that these sprays do have a shelf life.

Yeah, DDW is made with vegetable enzymes IIRC so I have experienced where it fermented over time, too.

I have tried a bunch of different sprays and I guess my favorite at the moment is the Primos Control Freak spray since it has colloidal silver in it which I KNOW kills bacteria. Other stuff I have no idea what’s in it to reduce odor.

All that said, like Tom, spray is far from the only thing I use to reduce odor.

Thanks for that extra info.
I forgot to mention that in my "all of the above" approach, I also use Scentlok and base layers with silver or other antimicrobial treatments. I do have a few chinks in my armor though. I seldom wear a glove on my draw hand and I can't seem to find a Scentlok hat/hood that I like. I'd like to find a tight fitting balaclava in Scentlok. Does anyone make such a thing?

I just play the wind, but I’m a noob and don’t have any monsters on my wall  so we’ll see what happens this season

Ozone with Dead Down Wind spray and wash. DDW makes some concentrated packets for the spray. I buy those and usually use 2-3 per year. As for the ozone I bought one of those small generators for $25 and a large tub that I lined with carbon mats. Nothing is 100% but this seems to help as I've watched many a critter come in on the same trail or get downwind of me and still have the time for a shot. Mind you I'm not a trophy hunter but slowing them down is half the battle. I'm not saying I haven't seen one become unglued while walking but I've noticed that little pause to stick the snoot in the air is sometimes all it takes.

I do not use them anymore, I have been busted just as many times when taking a scentaway shower, as I have not used it!! I have moved to playing the wind, and only hunting when my necessary wind is available. I do understand I limit myself with how often I get to hunt, but when I do hunt, I want to be able to make it count. I am only able to hunt with S/SE to a E wind. So this does two things for me, 1. I am never blowing out my spot with over hunting it. 2. always lets me be in the perfect wind for the hunt. I use a lighter for my wind direction instead of the smoke in the bottle mess as well, mainly because I know the wind, but I need to check it without leaving a spray of powder down the line. Just my 2 cents! Does not work for everyone, but it does for me thus far!

I used to work hard at scent control, but I gave up in this Texas heat. This year will be a relatively mild opener, temp wise. It is only going to get to 92 degrees for most of the week.

In temps like that, there is NOTHING you can do but play the wind as best as possible.
