R&W sold me my HTP and put a sewn eye on it. WE sells pre-sewn oplux tethers.

In retrospect, not sure it was worth having a sewn eye on my tether. I like having a sewn eye on my rappel line but if I was to do it again I’d have em out a tight eye on it to just get a screw link on there.

Man it’s odd as I thought R&W did it but that just replied to an email saying that can only splice, not sew. I have the WE tether, I just want something longer.

Must be a miscommunication there. HTP can be sewn but not spliced.

To be clear, they said they can’t sew anything at all. Think I should double check there wasn’t something clear about what I asked? Exact wording:

“Unfortunately we do not have sewn eye capabilities yet. However we can perform spliced eyes on ropes that can be spliced.”

Based on my recollection, I think they had Sterling do the sewing but I bought it all through RW.

The best for rappelling and SRT is probably a rope in the 10 to 11 mm range. That is in terms of comfort and being square in the middle of most devices’ specs.

Never used it myself, but a popular choice is Samson Predator and it can be spliced.

Inevitably packability becomes a factor and people look at 8 to 9 mm options.

I had issues finding devices rated above 10.5 as my rope is 11.

I was looking for devices available in the stores near me and I wasn't interested in the GriGri for size and weight.
Do you get duty free merchandise in Canada from UK countries? I bought from Bananafingers.com in Britain because the prices on some things were much better than in the states. Shipping on rope was very expensive.

Not sure. I’d have to check. Good tip though!
