The Wraptor

I wish I would have know more about this stuff when I upgraded My wife’s sewing machine. I would have gotten her one that was heavier duty. I would like to make another at some point, just wish i Could actually do the sewing myself. There is a Leather, self powered shoe cobbling machine on amazon, I can't remember where I seen it, but that would be pretty interesting for this type of stuff. it'll sew thru 3-4 layers of leather easily. runs in the 90-115 range from amazon/e-bay.

I have 2 other buddies that can’t wait to try mine. I did add 2 strip's to the top band to attach to the battle belt.

interesting about just using one piece of webbing. I can see how that would self adjust. That I think is where the double D-ring would really come in nice. I think it would help separate/organize the webbing. I'm not sure, but it seems like Fusion stopped making the straight d-ring. can hardly find any in-stock. There is the Bent D-ring from them though.
A friend of mine has a machine for sale. Not sure of the make but I can ask. His mom used it to sew canvas and boat seats and covers. It has a three foot long steel table under it and really heavy.

Has anyone used a Wraptor while one stick climbing? I'm curious to know if I would need to add leg loops and a waist belt when I sew mine up.

I have a question for you guys making these Wraptors. On your main loops, where are the ends sewn so the loops don't come apart? are they sewn under the vertical connecting pieces?

I have used it in original mode with just a bungee cord for a belt and the improved model with the belt and fleece between the sections. The belt was more reliable for keeping it in place while 1 sticking and rappelling. The solution @Allegheny Tom came up with for the stretch cord may also work well. The leg loops were not a facto, but you could easily add them like the Treehopper did.

I over engineered the original with 10" overlaps sewn on the main loops.

post 287, you can see where they are.

New to this whole saddle hunting thing and sewing for that matter. Here is my attempt. Thanks to everyone on here for your contributions and all the time put into helping out a newbie DIYer. It was an interesting project, and a good reason to learn to sew (the non-load bearing parts). Only 8 months til I can use it...

Looks good, like the clip for walking too!

Those bent d-rings look pretty good as well. Thanks for sharing.

New member here. Looking to build a wraptor for my first ever saddle. I am having a hard time finding the slotted D-rigs that spiney posted instead of using the O rings. Shows to be unavailable where I’ve checked. Anyone have info on where i can get a pair? Looking forward to trying out saddle hunting this off season! Thanks for all the help and advice on the forum.

Doublesteps.com has an aluminum d-ring that I used for mine. It is under subheading metal hardware/gear. Good luck with the project.

That was the first place i checked! Unfortunately they are out of stock when you click on the product to order it. I am building my wraptor from doublesteps though, ordered the webbing and 10mm static line last night. Will order Amsteel later.

Saddle Hunter affect. Things tend to go out of stock quickly. Amazon used to have them. DanO is really good responding to questions. Maybe pm him or send an email to him and he should be able to give you an ETA when it would be in stock.

Good luck building this. I think you will be surprised by it's comfort!!!

When I was looking, there were some on E-bay, but they were $15 or each. they same brand (Fusion) has a bent D-ring that is available on e-bay, amazon, and other places. Not sure if DanO has found another source, or updated quantities yet.

If, or should i say when I make another, I will look for the D-ring type to try. I have a couple buddies that want to make one later in the year. should be fun this year.
