I am looking at getting a new archery target for the back yard. There is a range within 5 minutes from my house but they typically close before I can make it over there after work. It wont be as much of an issue when the time changes, but regardless I would like a target in my back yard to fool around with. I have used a bag before with no issues. It seems as long as you keep it out of the weather the arrows pull fine. I am transitioning to traditional archery so I would like something that would handle both. Or, I was thinking I could buy a block/3-d for the compound and a bag for the traditional. Thoughts? What do use, what do you prefer?

Samick sage and the biggest target you can find/afford. You will appreciate it come tuning time.

I shoot traditional and opt for the $12 compressed straw bales from Tractor Supply. If I get the compound out, its a Big Boy compressed foam block target.

All of em? I get bored shooting at the same thing over and over again. Can't beat a $20-30 bag for the cost though. I just rotate sides once and awhile. I'd shoot at a straw bale but the wife would be mad if I had straw in the house.

I have one of each. Each one serves a purpose.

My favorite archery target is a 150", 275 pound whitetail!
Seriously though, my favorite "target" is a stump, or anything else I care to fling a judo towards. I rarely shoot at a "real target". Stump shooting is a blast and its great practice for the real world.

A target that i'll be picking up this summer is a blob, the big one. I have owned a couple in the past and imo, you can't buy a better one for the price. They're great!

The "who needs practice, let em fly" was too funny to not hit the button. It made me laugh out loud in the store and people looked at me like I had Tourette's. That made me laugh again, then it got awkward.

But I really prefer 3-D. I hate shooting anything else.

I like a bag target for field points and a Block or Rhinehart 18-1 for broadheads. Also like a 3D target to practice realistic life like shot angles you just can’t duplicate shooting spots on a flat target.

I have a to of stumps right now. Big ones. Wont hurt my arrows?

3d is the only 1 that trains your brain to shoot animals....I have a 3rdhand rag bag filled with clingy wrap that has lasted for 3 years in the weather 365.....but I prefer to shoot something that looks like what my intended target is

I've always shot a bag. With a block target for broadheads only. I'm currently shooting the hurricane bag that's rated for 400 FPS. I've found the faster/crossbow rated bags tend to hold up longer for me.

Rotted stumps.
But it doesn't have to be a stump. Anything that catches my eye can be a target. Sometimes it can be a large shadow and I can pick a spot within the shadow. Clump of grass, a leaf or a stick. Sometimes just shoot for a hole in brush. This type of shooting really helps you learn the arc of your arrow which is amazingly helpful to show you what size hole you can shoot thru and also how to arc OVER obstructions and hit your "target". Its a dimension of shooting that you dont experience when you shoot at conventional targets in the wide open. I just find stump shooting to be more interesting that walking back and forth pulling arrows from a target.
