I did some more research on this and it appears there is a 3rd material in the inner core that would be impossible to keep intact and perform a splice. If you take that very inner core out it essentially becomes a double braid rope. So when this was spliced the inner part of the core was cut out. Is it strong enough to do what we use it for? Probably. But technically it cannot be properly spliced.

Does anyone have a picture of the inner core material? Is it single strands, or a braided material?

Does anyone know what kind of strength a spliced eye has? And after the splice, do you run a caribeaner on the eye or thread the tag end through?? I absolutely love using the Oplux. It's my tether and rappel line. Just really want to know about the strength of a spliced eye.

Since splicing oplux seems to be the hot topic... I came across this video for splicing a double cored rope. I wonder if it would work on oplux.

If anyone does manage to hand splice some oplux, I'd be very intetested in the results if that splice could be sent off and pull tested. This is something that I plan on doing eventually but it's waaay down on my list of priorities as I have many other irons in the fire at the moment.

Shhh don't tell the fiance but I just put in an order with @DanO, I'll ask for forgiveness once it's delivered, heard it was easier that way :tearsofjoy:. Anyway I'm going to try my hand at splicing it like the video and I'll try to document each step also willing to have it tested... just not sure where to send it so any input would be appreciated.

Very cool keep us in the loop. I still intend to stop in Knot and Rope, but free time is extremely limited with work and family.

Oplux sewn eye, oplux figure 8, tethrd spliced eye, predator figure 8. Might help people decide which way to go. For me the wild edge sewn eyes are my go to for tether and lineman and oplux figure 8 for srt & repel rope.

If you can learn to perform that splice and it tests well you could prolly open up a store.
