Treehopper Recon sling

Thanks for the thorough explanation. if I recall, you actually remove the belt that goes around front? If so, there is no way I would feel comfortable in the saddle without a full and strong wrap around me that is buckled, similar to a climbing harness. Maybe it is just as safe, but I won't ever try it.

I might clip a little bungee to the lineman's loops on the way in in addition to the hard belt, but that's it.
I hear you. Everyone must make their own risk assessments, especially when we modify gear.
My bungee mod does remove the belt, so if anyone doesn't feel safe with that, then don't do it. But the utilibridge used double duty as the bridge and the belt is essentially the same concept in regards to not having a true belt wrapping around the from of you at all times.
I do believe that the bungee belt will keep the sling snug on me at all times, so in the event of a fall (I'm hoping) the sling will stay tight enough to stay in place.
Think about it... Whether you are using the lineman belt, or hanging from the tether/bridge, the sling is pulled tight so I can't envision actually falling out of it. Is it possible that it could slide up to my armpits during a fall? IDK, I haven't tested that.
But crap happens, so only do what you are comfortable with the safety of your mods and climbing.

A poor picture of an ultribridge on a recon
It is beside an H2 with a triad bridge

My recon has the webbing plates and i just girth hitched the utillibridge to the plates. It fits perfectly this way and still gives you the option to go back to webbing. Don't think I ever will though.

Considering just one side of the sling, did you girth hitch through both the plates or just one? If just one, then which one?

I girth hitched my full burry 1/4" amsteel bridge on the top of the left webbing plate and a 3/16" continuous loop on the top of the right webbing plate. (Make your continuous loop at least 13"From there you just follow the video on how to attach the two with a prusik. It take a few tries before it finally clicks.
Pictures??
Hope this helps.

So it looks like how you did it there is no advantage of having the amsteel plates? If anything you have the advantage of being able to go back to the webbing if you desired.

I saw Nugget's mod 1st hand. It is nice. And yeah, no need for the Amsteel plates with this. It does give the option to switch to either webbing or Amsteel.
Has anyone had any negative experiences with the utilibridge? I mean, it the entire concept of a prussik riding on a double Amsteel reliable?

I can’t see an issue. Tethrd did test the ultribridge last year. But I would try to use there specs for rope diameter and buries.

I have the amsteel plates and had one with a webbing bridge. I cannot see that the amsteel plates are necessary either. I do prefer the amsteel bridge.

Can someone measure the width of the leg straps? If I get the Recon Sling, I'm considering switching to load bearing buckles. It looks like the stock ones are plastic.

I pulled my leg straps off. This is the only saddle I have without them. They are just not necessarily with this sling style setup.

I took mine off. I"ve never seen the need with an anderson style sling. If also limits the adjustability of how far you can move the second section up.

You don't think it could help in some unforeseen SHTF fall incident while you are climbing, mess up, and take a 1 or 2 foot fall onto your tether in some awkward position? (I always use tether and lineman's belt while climbing, but climb in the dark and when raining/snowing)

I'm really used to a rock climbing harness and the sense of the leg straps keeping you in the thing. I suppose I could climb with the leg straps and then adjust or unclip once sitting at height.

I left them on for rappelling only. I am not sure they are needed there yet

i have the sling and have the leg loops off for now. After some testing i could see how without the leg straps if you slipped off of a stick the sling can possibly slide up to your armpits making it very uncomfortable and could possibly injure you pretty bad. that is the only scenario where i could see the leg straps helping. i really wish it had better permanent leg straps. if it did i think it would be the best saddle out there.

What do you mean by permanent leg straps?
