Treehopper Recon sling

Just my opinion, but I prefer the bottom section to come into the buckles from the outside, which is a 20 second fix than how Mark ships them ( the bottom comes into the buckles from the inside).
The reason I like my way better is for walking position. With the bottom coming into the buckles from the outside, the bottom can be pulled up over the top while walking. The way he ships them, them bottom won't lay over the top.
I think my way is slightly more comfortable, too.

How are you changing this to make the bottom section come in from the outside?

Twist the strap in the side buckles.

Ok ill look at mine tonight. Just got it yesterday and didn't have a ton of time to mess with it but for some reason when i sit in it the top section with the molle wants to slide down under my legs easier than the bottom section if that makes sense.

I pull the section with the Mollie loops down which accomplishes the same thing. That's the way I always did with my Anderson Sling. I don't use the leg straps so it doesn't matter.

Just got home to to a package from Mark at Treehopper. ANOTHER new belt option! This is the speed buckle you now see on their website. Holy crap, this is a home run. I can cinch the sling down tight like a belt, it's easynot lose to hang, and it comes apart. I love it.
Mark really doesn't stop till he gets something just right- and gets the updates out to the customers. Guys, you are all going to be psyched with this new belt!!!

Does this new belt keep the sling tight on the body so it doesn't fall down and can maybe be walked with? I ask because one of the draws of the amsteel utilibridge is to tighten the sling up so you can walk etc. This seems like it might take care of that.

It will stay tight with the new belt.
You can add a utilibridge to a Recon.
I saw one on a member's Recon and its a pretty nice mod.
I still like my bungee belt the best on my Recon, but a utilibridge is a close 2nd.

I like the ultribridge

With the different saddle size options that's now offered that belt should work fine, no?

Actually, it will work better. When there was just one size sling, smaller, less fat guys ran out of space for tightening the belt.
If you get the right size sling, there will be plenty of room to get the belt tight.

Yeah, that's my basic point. A big seller for the utilibridge was to use it as a belt on the way in. If that is not needed now, and the webbing is adjustable when you take weight off (true of a friction hitch also), then I might just save my time and get the webbing bridge. If I'm missing something important, then I hope someone points it out before I buy the sling this week sometime!

A draw to the webbing bridge is that it is so cheap and easy to replace periodically. Also, nylon I believe does better in a fall than amsteel because it gives a little bit (less likely to break, I think amsteel specs are all static loads). I'll probably put some stopper knots at both ends of the webbing so they can't pull through the plates, if it makes sense to do so when I have it (if I don't go with the rope).

Slight correction...Unless Mark has made a recent change, the webbing bridge is polyester not nylon.

And I will still make a pitch for the bungee belt mod.
It is self adjustable 100% of the time while hanging. The sling stays tight when needed but it also stretches open when the bridge is weighted. If I reposition and remove my weight from the bridge, the sling auto tightens and won't sag.
With the webbing belt loosened during a hang, or utilibridge (being used double duty as the belt), the sling will sag when unweighted, unless you keep it cinched tight all of the time which is less comfortable during a long hang.

Can the utilibridge be used with the sling fitted with the webbing buckles or do you need the amsteel setup? This will be my first saddle/sling and I have been holding off ordering because I can’t decide which one I will be better off with.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. if I recall, you actually remove the belt that goes around front? If so, there is no way I would feel comfortable in the saddle without a full and strong wrap around me that is buckled, similar to a climbing harness. Maybe it is just as safe, but I won't ever try it.

I might clip a little bungee to the lineman's loops on the way in in addition to the hard belt, but that's it.

@Nugget might chime in and show his. He did a utilibridge on webbing-style plates and it worked out very nicely.

My recon has the webbing plates and i just girth hitched the utillibridge to the plates. It fits perfectly this way and still gives you the option to go back to webbing. Don't think I ever will though.

The webbing set up works well. Just make up your utillibridge and girth hitch the bridge and prusik to the wedding plates. It fits perfectly and allows you the versatility to go back to the wedding. A 13 to 14 inch 3/16 continuous loop is needed for the girth hitch setup.
