Sorry, I should have clarified. I use a strap with loops, carabiner and two rappel rings. I can put the rope through the rings and cinch it down so that I will not move. That's how I've been camping for the last 4-5 years. I use trees...just never tie the ropes. Now I use the cinch buckles

I’ve been exclusively hammock camping for about 10 years. It’s great, especially if it rains. Definitely go to hammockforums.net and spend time there before ordering.
I have my own thoughts on both Hennessy and Dutch, but I’ll keep those to myself.

Bridge hammocks require a little more care as far as setup and attention to detail (the spreader bars can poke a hole in your tarp, etc). They are super comfy and easy to insulate, though. I’m 6’3” and fit in most bridge hammocks, but I’m close to being too tall.

I prefer gathered end hammocks, but they are not as easy for some people to find all night comfort. I would highly recommend SimplyLightDesigns as a first hammock. Jared’s craftsmanship is second to none and his turnaround time is amazing. 11’ will be more comfortable than 10’ for most people.

Insulation is where you should be willing to spend some $$.

Been hammock camping for about 8 years. Some quick info ... there are basically two hammock styles. Bridge vs Gathered End.

A bridge hammock uses spreader bars at the head and foot allowing the user to lay straight. They insulate well because of the shape. Does not fit all shapes and sizes. Most all bridge hammocks fit me. I'm 6 ft and have a Warbonnet RidgeRunner.

In a gathered end hammock the user lays at an angle until they are most comfortable (they call this the "sweet spot"). Insulation is little harder to dial in but get's easier the more you do and is not a problem. Fit's more shapes and sizes.

As far as weight is concerned. The gathered end will be lighter most of the time.

There's also this thing, which I've been told is very comfortable.

As far as choosing a manufacturer, I tend to lean towards who is putting work into the system (suspension, hardware, bug net, organization, etc...). When you are first starting out buying a hammock system is nice way to go. Over time you will customize the system and figure out what you really like.

How do you not use a tree?

You can set up a hammock like a Hennessy on the ground like a tent using trekking poles or small trees or wood poles on each end tied to the ridge line and then stake out 2 guy-wires from the top of each pole and out. This then supports the roof and bug net while the hammock then lays on the ground (but I’d recommend a tarp under it).

It’s good to know and have the pieces with you in case you need to set up like this in a pinch but it’s less than ideal.

I have a Hennessy and I like it but if I was buying another I’d buy a warbonnet and pass the Hennessy down to my kid or wife.

Last I looked the warbonnet has a zip off fly and a built in gear shelf and some other features I liked over my Hennessy

I have 2 hammocks I've used to camp. I use an old rainfly from a junk tent off a guy line between the anchor trees staked and guy line to the ground. Both were less than 5 bucks. 1 is a bunched end style from sportsman's guide. The material is noisy and hot on your skin. I covered the factory material with a fleece blanket I found. I use mule tape with butterfly knots every 6" and fixed loop to girth the tree. I take it in the winter.
The other I got at the army navy surplus store a long time ago called a minipak. It's like a fishing net. This 1 came with 10ft of 12 strand nylon rope attached so I just tie whatever knot is sufficient for the trunk or branch. This 1 rides in my truck and I use it all the time. I use it as a gear hang also if I'm in a tent. The hammock bothers my back sometimes so I'm usually in a bivy type tent with a 1 man air mattress. I always take the hammock just to have the extra option. I would have been in a hammock at saddlepalooza but it was pouring down rain.....popped up the portable shelter and set the tent up in the center keeping almost dry

I’ve been wanting to do the same. Been looking at Dutchware, or the Dream hammock setups. Recently came across Spiguyver review of the Ridge Outdoors hammock. It’s a complete system and for 50 bucks it doesn’t hurt the bank account if you don’t like it. Got it in the other day and the material is soft. Hopefully get some better weather to make my first hang. First impressions would be to do the mods for the ridge line and continuous loops.
You can find it on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/11ft-Camping...mmock&qid=1588027051&sprefix=ridge+out&sr=8-8

Anybody tried eastern woods outdoors hammock yet? @DanO u got any pic of y'alls hammock set up? The website pic doesn't show much

I haven’t but I told my sister all about the one DanO had on his site and she got one with the bug net. My nieces use it daily to read in the yard. They said it is just as nice as their Eno that ripped.

Thinking about throwing one in on my next order!

Soon! When I got them back in December it just wasn't a good time to get outside pics! My daughter has been using ours outside quite a bit lately so I'll get an action pic posted.

Forgot you sold hammocks. Made locally?
