Lineman’s knot

Some people on the internet have discussed what can happen if a knot is overly complicated. The results of tying it wrong can be bad.

What carabiner? I have never (that I can recall) in my life tied a carabiner to a lineman's belt.

So you have it tied to both sides of your saddle? How do you get it around the tree?
This is not a lineman's belt but a lineman's rope, right?

I don't think it matters so much on what knot u end up using....it just matters that it doesn't untie

I have one end tied to my saddle, a stopper on the other. The only carabiner is tied to a piece of hitch cord that forms my distel...

If I'm just gonna take a loop, girth-hitch it somewhere, and leave it, why not cut out the middleman and just tie it there directly?

I should have clarified that the loop I showed on the picture was for a tether, not a lineman’s rope.

But for giggles I went out to a tree in the backyard (benefits of working remotely from home), wrapped a rope around it at forehead height, and tied a double dragon knot to secure the rope to the tree to make my tether. Certainly doable but girth hitching with an existing loop seems a bit easier!

You run around leaving tethers in trees? Inspect for squirrel damage before hooking back up!
(I mentioned "leave it" for a reason. Girth-hitching loops is perfectly reasonable if the connection is temporary.)
