The old timer advice thread had some replies about what you need/don’t need when hunting.

So of alllll your purchases, what was the one thing you wasted money on/most regret buying.

for sanity let’s try to keep it to one item! :p

for me: “Scent killing“ products - it’s just not worth it.

Sticks.

My climber, which I fortunately bought used for just $50. I've used it once, and I hated the bulk and noise so much I put it in the basement and bought a saddle. Saddles have their fair share of problems too, especially cost, but a saddle with bolts on private land is so much better than a climber, in my opinion.

Hmmmmmm just one , bought a real nice doe decoy & never really had the right application to use it & the couple time I did it just spooked deer. It just went in the trash this season

UA clothing. freeze ya to death, and scents
Yea that stuff really magnifies or fuels body odor especially the stuff made for warm weather, or such has been my experience. A lot of the knockoff stuff does much better.

I don't regret hunting gear really, even the stuff that was a waste of money. But, some gear I've tried to use has proven counterproductive to my goal of maximizing the amount of critters I kill.

I'd say my bow, a .243, and a 20 gauge fall into the category of inefficient killing tools i wasted valuable time trying to use.

colombian wool from cabelas. I bought into the hype of wool is warm even when its wet. I froze my butt off in Kansas, especially when it rained. I held it up to the sky and could see light through it. I was lucky to be able to sell it without a huge loss.

I dumped a lot of money into high end backpack spike camp/bivy gear mainly for out west only to figure out I don't much like that style of hunting. I need more creature comforts to enjoy myself. Haven't sold that gear because I like the idea of having the option for a night or two, but I'll stick to truck camping and cabins for longer term. Not sure if I regret it but it certainly doesn't get used commensurate with the investment.
