Well; the trigger has been pulled! Cruzr XC kit and lone wolf sticks coming my way! I found some sticks sold privately that I just have to get one day (3 hours from me) and the Xc saddle will be shipped. I’ll probably get nailed on duty but I’m happy to be joining the club. Now I’m just working on the platform. Public land mule and whitetail deer in British Columbia won’t know what hit em.

Slippery slope! Ironically I find the actual saddle part is not the problem. Its the climbing method. The climbing method has been brutal on my wallet.

And backpacks. I am like Goldilocks with backpacks. Still haven't found one that's just right.

Welcome to the club. From what I see on here, a person might as well spend the money up front to get quality stuff. It seems a lot of people, myself included, started off buying cheap stuff just to get into the saddle game, but ends up slowly acquiring better stuff as they get deeper in, thus buying the same gear twice.

Less is doable if you have perfect foresight or get lucky. I did a fair amount of research and my first set of complete gear for saddle hunting was totally serviceable. However, there were parts that I wasn't satisfied with.

I think you can get 70% or so there pretty quickly. It's the fine tuning on the balance that really adds up.

Welcome to the forum. It is a little pricey but the experience and the meat you get out it is worth it. I got two does this year and calculated out, gear cost per pound it was ONLY $234/pound of meat. So worth it.

Just whittle your own sticks and bow and stand. Vines work well if done properly for stick mods. Pine cone for versa button, deer hide for pack, intestines for lineman’s belt and feather. Should be under a hundred bucks.
