Well...after my 2500 Hd had a run in with the mice of death whom ate all 3 main wiring harnesses in the box and my insurance company declared it totalled(with only like 80k on it!!!!!!). And now my suby has met its death with rust.....

I'm looking for a vehicle... needs to fit 2 front facing cars eats and have leg room for me at 6'4". Would prefer at least a standard bed if a truck...and a v8.

Thinking either crew cab truck with cap, or Toyota 4runner....
Thoughts? Go.....

4runners are sweet. If it wasn't for them costing 40k new I'd have seriously looked into one when I got the Forester.

To me it all comes down to this. How often do you need to haul something that you aren't willing to put in the back of an SUV? If my work consisted of me regularly loading manure, sod, concrete, fertilizer, etc...I'd have a truck. But on the fairly rare occasion I need to do that I can put it on my hitch rack or borrow my buddy's trailer. I'd rather have all my expensive gear locked up by default and have my sleeping quarters heated and cooled. Not to mention if a samsquanch tries to molest me I can just scramble back up in the driver's seat and floor it.

Other than the ability to haul nasty stuff without making a mess, the only real advantage most trucks offer is more HP and higher clearance. But more horses means more feed, and now most trucks come default with pretty low clearance. And you kinda have to have a long wheel base to have a bed that can actually hold stuff, and I have driven a suburban enough to know that I like those short cars!

I love the forester. 30mpg average for me, it hauls a jon like it isn't there, and it's roomy but maneuverable. May just be new car infatuation, but it's pretty friggin sweet.

I’m a 4Runner guy, but i dont really have any need for a truck. Gas mileage is ok, i guess around 20mpg. They hold their resale value really well. Last one i got 10 years and 180,000 miles. This one is rigged for hunt/camp/surf for me. Extra cargo on top or in hitch hauler. But a full size bed is gonna give a lot more room than what i have. Good luck

New? Used? What kinda price? Does MPG matter? Are you towing anything?
Probably used/close to new. I wont buy anything with mroe than 60k on it. Average price for each vehicle. Yes, need to be able to tow a boat/boats. MPG in the 20range is ok. If I'm buying a full size truck I'm getting a V8....

Yeah, I've always thought I needed a truck...I do use the bed often, but with tow capability and maybe a hitch cargo rack for dead animals....The 4runner might beat it out for a "Family" vehicle.....

Just get a utility trailer! That's gonna be my next purchase.

My best bud's 4runner is nice. Hauls the big boat to the backwoods launches and hauls his 2 little crotch goblins around town. He has a 10ft utility trailer for messy/bulky stuff and I can't think of anything a truck would do for him that combo wouldn't.

And my dad has a truck but uses a hitch hauler for dead deer ever since he started having shoulder problems. Way easier to lift a dead animal onto a rack than a tailgate.

Yeah, I could do that....you know what happens when you own a trailer though? 1) you have to store it 2) everyone and their brother wants to borrow it and one of them inevitably backs it into something cause they don't own a trailer and have no idea how to drive with one....

I've seen pics of your yard. Dont tell me you can't park a trailer next to the 17 boats you have. ;)

As far as buddies borrowing something, in the words of Fred Sanford, "It's this little trick do with my mouth. I go like this, and I go...NO!"

Abd Chainsaws, oh man...I have one that is the "rental" cause everyone beats the piss out of it....

Even better. I feel bad telling my buddies to bug off. Family, though...I relish the chance!

VW TDI Sportwagen with a trailer hitch.
48 mpg, think of all the money you'd save....
Yeah, I need something bigger...I"m coming from a subaru outback limited XTI, manual turbo boxer engine with a partial STI conversion... My wife has an outback as well. WE have rackso on both...we still take two cars the majority of the time...

Transit AWD van.
Or...
I just got Quigley Transit 4x4. Perfect for a lot of uses.
Tons of space. I can camp in it, haul stuff, and go anywhere my truck could go.

I am a mason.and bought my first crew cab truck last year. Mine has the short bed,65" i think. I could load that up but much prefer using my dump trailer to haul long and or heavy things. I would suggest going the trailer route because they are not that expensive and cost next to nothing as far as registration goes. So you are not paying much if you are not using it. And then you could get away with a smaller more economical vehicle.

I have had a lot of new vehicles due to my work, hands down the best truck I have ever owned is my toyota tundra, double cab, the only thing I will do different when I buy another one is get a new matching leer or ARE cap of some sort with canoe rack, I live in upstate NY with stupid amounts of road salt, I have my vehicles sprayed with Crown Oil rust preventative every spring, my truck is a 2012 with zero rust, the frame is still black, I used to buy brand new vehicles every 4 years before my tundra and Crown Oil treatments.
