No Sticking Thread

Does all the setting and un-setting of the platform make a lot of noise on the way up? People seem to comment on the noise all the time.

Just need to revive this thread for a minute. What would be a good small diameter rope, that is strong enough for my weight (175lbs) that I could use to tie onto my predator for an aider? I want to tie it, not splice, so Amsteel is out of the question. My plan is to tie on the tree side of the platform but out of the way of the cam teeth. From there I will add alpine knots in for cross sections (steps) as the loop drops down. The alpine knots should in theory solve the aider closing issue to a usable and still packable rate.

Thanks in advance for any input!

What about 1” tubular webbing? Can be tied and a lot of people prefer it over Amsteel aiders anyway.

Clarifying question, unrelated to specific topic, asking for understanding : what makes this an ‘official’ thread?

When I made it I didn't realize there was older threads on the topic. So, in turn, I wanted to make a singular thread on all things no sticking. Apparently there were 2 older ones that I couldn't find in the search option.

I think 1” tubular webbing is a good option as mentioned above, otherwise If you want rope then I’d go with Oplux.

I figured 1" tubular webbing would be bulky and awful looking once knotted, especially with alpine knots? But then again I don't have much experience with tying webbing.
My only experience with tying tubular webbing is the moveable aider I made with it one time. Just had one continuous loop tied together in a water knot. I agree the knots may not be as clean but I do think the webbing aider was more stable than the Amsteel aiders I’m currently using.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate it!

Hey guys, I have some questions that I bet you can answer. I just asked @Weldabeast a few questions on a 1 stick thread, and I am sure @Nutterbuster has some input.

Who no sticks and what combo is the best as far as platform/aiders go? I just tried my predator with some tied on webbing and ascended just as easy as with my muddy pro. The only thing that was more difficult was not having a cam cleat for moves. One other thing I noticed is I tied a 2 step aider from webbing and when the bottom step is under load, the top step is hair pin tight. Are there any factory aiders designed for no sticking? I want to run my predator with a 2 step aider and rappel down. Dropping the 1 stick frees up more room for camera gear and makes my pack less of a snag hazard.

Thanks guys! Pics would be appreciated btw!
My buddy uses the same method but he attaches the webbing separately. One long for first step and one short for second. That way the short strap stays wide open when stepping on the longer.

I saw another post like that as well. The knots weren't that clean that's why I was leaning towards rope. Sewn webbing with only being tied at the platform probably wouldn't be bad. Waiting to see what @drew13 has to say!

I got an idea - sewn webbing aider with no loops on the ends then use tri-glides to loop it through your platform. Easily removable that way.
