Had a great sit yesterday evening
Seen some doe
Unable to get a clear shot
But at least I found some
Had two almost run me over while I was packing gear for the hike out
They came full tilt over the ridge and turned off about five feet from me

Glad you found em. Even when a deer isn’t harvested I just love having encounters like that! Question is: are you gonna hit that spot up again?

I ended up getting out there last night where I had that really cool encounter with the 8 point on Thursday. Well under the chinkapin oak where there was feed sign and fresh scat last week there was zero fresh sign and the area where I saw the buck scraping had leaves all over it with no fresh tracks. Rub didn’t look fresh either. Dang. How much can change in 3 days. So decision time: hang and hope or keep scouting until I find something that forces me to hang a set? I decided to still hang a cell cam there because i did think this buck was living in the area but I moved on. This was at 2 pm. I hiked just a little over 5 miles without seeing any decent sign and finally bumped a doe and a fawn at 5:30 pm. So with only an hour of shooting time left I decided to set up there and hope they’d circle back. I essentially have unlimited doe tags in Tennessee so. Had a brief shot opportunity at the smallest fawn but no others. Felt like a lot of work last night for sure. Oh and I did get some cell cam pics late last night of does and small bucks but not the big boy. . Honestly this fawn was looking mighty delicious after all that hiking. I’ve shot fawns before and have no issue with it but this one was 15 pounds smaller than any of the other ones I’d seen. Couldn’t do it.

Heres a spike investigating at the new cell cam site. I’ll give it a week or so see if big boy comes back but he may have just moved on.

I am kicking myself for letting some walk earlier...oh well
We have a long deer season with some certain wma allow bucks and does all the way up till end of January.
I have a muzzleloader quota coming up end of the month in a wma I'm really familiar with. It's a 3 day jobber and those 3 may only be half days but I'm not gonna complain...

Nice I kinda love picking up that muzzleloader for the first time and getting revenge on all those deer that constantly stayed just barely outta bow range

Saw 3 this morning, doe and fawn walked right under me at first light then a knarly little 3 pt walked under me at 9. That was it for this morning. Got back into camp and decided I really needed a shower so I took one. Discovered two ticks, one just below my Adam's apple and one on the back of my shoulder. I had permethrin treated my long sleeve shirts but its been so warm here I've been hiking in and out in short sleeves. I just treated those too. View attachment 54621
Keep that up and you’ll be a true Floridian in no time

After this evenings sauna sit, I am wondering how cut out for it I am too
Shared pain forges strong bonds fellas. I had to hold my thermacell right under my chin to keep the mosquitoes off my head tonight. Worst I’ve ever seen them. I had the thought, “what the hell am I doing out here?!” But then, I’ll be back out tomorrow cuz I love it.

I’m pretty sure my lungs are made up of whatever the thermocell is burning at this point
