Who Wants Nothing To Do With One Sticking?

@tailgunner I don’t think so. I was only 12 ft up and he was at 30yds steady walking. Deer walk at 3mph and if you do the math they are in and out of range in less than a minute, but more importantly, I was in the wide open against the tree and there is no way he would not have seen me move. As it was, I kept saying in my mind “ok, he’s going to see me now” “ok, he’s going to see me now” At 8yds he stopped for a second and I’m like, “ok, that’s it, he‘s definitely going to see me now”. Never did, and I had my clothes bag and my bow on my back. I looked like a ninja turtle on the side of that tree. I literally could have just jumped on his back, that’s how close he walked under me. It was surreal, this was a mature buck and it was like he was zoned out and not paying attention.

That’s awesome! Man what a day! I was freaked out when I was about the same height and saw a doe at about 20 yards…..cept she was looking right at me! No I’m not quite quiet enough yet!

If it's weight that is a problem then you may not be training right...try this type of training then maybe a couple ounces wont matter so much...

camron lives just down the freeway .ive seen his truck at the bowrack.dude is an animal.he sets a good example of an oregon boy mindset towards hunting.mind you this is wilderness out here not fam hunting with tree stands.if you kill a rosivelt after already hiking all day,it will be in a creek bottom and you are going to make 5 trips crawling clawing tooth and nail up hill 2 steps up slide 1 step back all the way to the ridge packing 100 lb.quarters ..and that 1000 feet of elivation change comes with devils club brush 10 feet deep.so this dude isnt crazy.he is ready.people should take notes

Man thats an awesome testament...yep hes a beast alright...his preparation and approach to hunting amazes me...I would love to meet him to say thanks for all his inspiration...thanks for that story and best wishes...stay safe out there

i like to carry 50 lb.bags of trace minerral salt out in the woods to salt stumps when scouting for exercise.killing 2 birds with 1 stone.......i slipped crossing a log over a creek once and strattled it with a 50 lb.bag on my shoulders ...laffed so hard after i was done crying....just mad no one els was there to laff

I can't find a reason to try it. I carry 5.5 pounds worth of sticks in my hand on the way in that get me 18 feet high (never needed to be higher). I've never once said "man I wish I only had one of these sticks in my hand" just so I could dangle off the tree on my way up.

I'm 52 and still in reasonably good shape.I'm still in a gym lifting heavy before work every day like I have for the past 30 years and throwing BP to my 16 year old son several times per week.I'm still not the same as I was 10 years ago and save weight every where I can.I hunt steep public land,go in fairly deep and take everything in and out with me.I'm not an olympic athlete but with my schedule,it's about as good as it's gonna get.I'm way past wanting to make 5 trips in and out of hell to pack an elk out but have no issues packing out a deer. With that said, using one stick and a saddle has completely changed the way I hunt. It's lighter, faster and much less to deal with compared to using multiple sticks.I could never imagine going back to multiple sticks or carrying a climber in.

One sticking takes practice but once u nail it I believe it's the best way to scout-hunt. I may walk all day looking for a track or hot sign that I want to set up on. It's just one tool in your tool box. If on private land obviously it's easier to have trees already prepared with screw ins.

So I’m pretty convinced to give one sticking a shot but how is it in winter with bibs on? I imagine it takes more moves because of being able to move up shorter distances at a time. I climbed my regular sticks this morning and was just thinking man this would suck with 1 stick. Convince me otherwise

I got 18-20’ in two moves (after the initial one from the ground) in my fanatic bibs (jacket still on the ground). Danner boots. I’m 5-9/178 and 64. Same number of moves as in light weight clothing. i practice a lot before the season so I’m comfortable. Bib legs are halfway unzipped. It’s not for everyone, i just like the minimum amount of gear. Good luck

Fanatic bibs is what I had this morning also halfway unzipped. You’ve got a few inches on me though but this is good info. Thanks

Just like walking in (wearing the fanatics), ya gotta go slow. Biggest thing for me was enuff practice to be totally relaxed the whole climb

I can get the same height, clothes or no clothes. Clothes primarily affects your ability to climb your aider and that’s why I bought an aider with 15” spacing. I can climb it with or without clothes same, same.
