Lightest Climbing Methods?

my setup looked just like the other posters picture, but with one loop on each step. im setting the steps up at nipple height, and then dropping the loop halfway between there and my feet.
Picture?

So u make the boat cleat type attachment with a step made out of the rope that's attached to ur stick and then attach an aider to the rope loop/step

no.. it is literally just a 16" 1x2. i have a hole on one end to attach the rope. im working now, but ill see if I can pic or vid when Im off and post it up. works pretty good. when you first step from the loop (which is connected to both ends of the board that is roped to the tree) it gives a little, but it is not bad at all, considering im strapped onto the tree with my saddle. when i put the left foot on the board for the step upward from the loop (right foot in the loop), i have the tether already moved up high and i am gripping the tree with both hands. as soon as you put your right foot on the other side of the board the thing is better balanced and feels real solid. it does actually work. and it doesnt cost anything more than whatever rope you use. i just have some hardware store ski rope now, but I think the white nylon would be better for it. i use climbing rope for all my critical attachments, but for this the hardware store rope is fine (im tethered to the tree with climbing rated ropes at all times).

I'm interested in this too as I want to try the Japanese method in spring....

Seems pretty cool!

Hey guys, tinkering with a lightweight climbing method and need some opinions. I’ve seen a somewhat similar climbing method only using one step on a strap. I thought two would be nicer.

Setup is EWO OCB buckle, two tree hoppers, an 1/8 amsteel continuous loop, black diamond carabiner and black diamond aider. Anyone see anything abnormally unsafe here? Ik my feet are a little closer to the tree/pole but mainly curious what others think. Not really high on my priority list of climbing methods but wanting to give It a try.

Also please take a peak at how I looped the strap through the OCB? Is this incorrect? It popped open on me with my full body weight. Which didn’t instill much confidence in this setup already. Thanks!

Are you planning on using it like 1 sticking? I mean climb up, reach down unbuckle, strap up higher?

No sir, I’d have two or three of these setup on buckles. Place them up as I go. Kinda using it like some guys use wild edge steps. Maybe I should just scrap this, I’m not super sure the best way to move the aider. I could take out the gate but I didn’t like how it looked on the amsteel loop.

Dont scrap it till you try it. From my experience with WE STEPPs and an aider if any sort, the hardest part was reaching back down to get the carabiner. Have you tried that action yet? And as for tightening down that buckle just practice till you get it super tight.
Also it looks like yr on a pole. Tree bark is rougher and will hold better. So it might grip more and be less slippery.

Yea that’s the part I’m not sure off. Moving the aider. I’ve heard of guys removing the gate and but it just didn’t seem super secure for me. Maybe I’ll try another aider too. Yea I tried it on a pole just for the pics. Thanks!

Just seems like if it would work well it would be a super light weight, somewhat quick climbing method!
