The Senate on Tuesday passed a measure that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent across the United States.

Right when the rut is in full swing daylight savings happens, I think it was Nov 11th this past year. And I use it to my advantage to hunt almost every single morning in November for at least one hour before work. Get up, get coffee and get out and watch the sun rise. Nothing better.

I hope this gets shut down and congress focuses on legislation that actually matters, like curtailing hyper inflation resulting from irresponsible spending. But I digress.

Time changes are confusing, which makes reasonable discussions about them difficult. DST goes away in the Fall as we revert to standard time.

This wrecks after work hunts as the shortening daylight hours are combined with the clocks falling back to standard time. This puts me in the "make DST permanent" camp.

I frankly have zero idea what you even mean. Like, zero clue. I’m trying to talk to hunters about DST and how and when we will hunt differently if there are changes, especially on work days.

“split the difference and walk away”. Ahh okay?
 
Splitting the difference would have massive implications in many areas, since the whole world isn't going to do that all at once, any time soon.

Time zone differences across the world are bad enough to keep track of with DST changes being inconsistent already even within the same time zone. And time zones are incredibly complex to deal with in areas such as healthcare systems. Shifting one jurisdiction by 1/2 hour adds way too much complexity both for automated systems and for people who have to figure out cross-jurisdictional time differences on the fly.

Thinking just about hunting before/after work is too simplistic. I want to see the time change abolished, but splitting the difference is a really bad idea and there is no need for that.

Speaking from a place of experience with organ transplant systems that span multiple jurisdictions/time zones/countries!

ya it’s not applicable. A hunter can get up as early as they want and be set in their stand for sunrise.

Most hunters can’t leave work whenever they want.

mornings in November vs evenings in November… are also NOT equal.

DST is a windfall of hunting time at the EXACT best time of the ENTIRE whitetail calendar and at the EXACT best time of the day.

Not sure how people don’t grasp that. If you don’t use that time you probably don’t get it, but if you don’t get it you should think about it before saying it’s 6 in 1 and half dozen in another bc that is not true at all if you take the time to actually think about it.

I think about everything from the perspective of hunting lol, I have a hunting obsession. But I definitely apply that lens when I’m talking to you guys, it’s a hunting forum.

I’m sure there are many ways to look at the legislation, but as a community I figured I’d point out the hunting angle
 
I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm sort of used to it changing and I have become averse to change if that makes sense, lol. I do know that I do sort of like the change in November because It won't still be daylight at 8:00 PM and If I get a deer, I won't be 11:00 PM dragging in. Before daylight to 9 pm or so makes for some long days early season. When I hunt, I almost always make a day of it and wouldn't make the drive for a short sit in the morning. Even turkey hunting I make a good day of scouting afterward and may make an evening hunt. If my spots were close that might change things.
