I have wild edge steps and have always wondered why they just didn't use an adjustable strap. Are the primals a suitable substitute?
I was satisfied with the WE Ropes so I never considered amsteel..and the W.E. ropes compared to amsteel?
I went with primals because of the price. I swapped the buckle for 1/4 amsteel. I actually used them as my main climbing this year with a 3 step cayg aider. Also used them as a ROS. I actually used them this year more than one sticking, and I LOVE to one stick. If you don’t want the buckles I’d recommend just going with the WE right off the bat.
I did the exact same thing. Didn't like the noise and fiddle factor with the buckles so changed out to 1/4" amsteel. I put a small piece of lead in the end of the amsteel and taped it in place to help in getting the rope around larger trees or in windy conditions. I don't climb with them anymore but still use 3 for a ROS. If I had to do it again I'd just buy the WE to start with.
What is ROS?
I’ve been using Primals a lot this season. I tried amsteel, but it is not quite as easy to adjust or untie versus the WE hollow braid type rope, so I went back to that.
I am going to make another platform insert after the season using plastic (cutting board type material) as opposed to wood and experiment. Many short evening hunts have been done standing on a single step. Not the most comfortable option, but works ok on a 1-2 hr hunt and only carrying 4 steps at 4 lbs total.
How do you carry them? I can’t say I love the WE pouch…
