If you hunt in pines, there will always be needles stuck on limbs all around and these move with the wind.
Michigan Wisconsin or Minnesota after around Oct 1 … your breath!!
Same thing happened to me. Just substitute fart for breath.I had a big buck come in quietly and my first indicator was his breath. His first indicator was my breath. He won. But it was darn close.
Perhaps you intend to play a joke on this feller? If so, remove or cover the label on a small bottle of fart spray, tell him it's scent killer to be sprayed on when he gets to hunting height, or to be used to test the wind. Turn him from a smart feller into a fart smeller.Looking for ways to tell an unprepared feller in a tree how to check wind.
Already mentioned:
Windchecker powder
Milkweed
Long thread
Smoke/thermacel
Lick your finger
What are some non standard items/methods for a rudimentary check of the wjnd he might have on him
I was hoping someone would say it so I didn’t have to. Fart and sniff. If you can smell it your scent is rising or the wind might be at your back. If you let one go and you don’t get a good smell then the wind might be blowing at your face or thermals carrying it down.
Err... I'm not sure this is universal. Red beards tend to go against the flow.1) Grow a real beard
2) Watch which way it moves.
Lighter, small turkey breast feather on dental floss tied on one of your limbs or stabilizer, look at grasslands, fallow fields to see the predominant way most of the vegetation is laying, snowflakes drifting down, crushed up dried leaves, dust, take your hat and neck gaiter off and feel where the wind is hitting you….. some quick ideas probably already mentioned by someone previously.Looking for ways to tell an unprepared feller in a tree how to check wind.

They do, they do!I've heard cat tails work like milkweed.
Also several people have told me deer like the smell of cannabis, just saying
I've been in some Mississippi craggs and the ridges will suck the wind in particular directions of a deep bowl or holler. The app is only accurate to global forecasts, 30' above ground and that's if you have cell service in the wild....Check Windfinder app.
Storm trooper, hopefully, with that helmet so she can breathe. She’s a trooper
