2022 Contest Final Results

Take your crocs and get the heck on outta here, those are the OG dad shoes. Yinz don't know those are his grass cutters? He has like 3-4 more pairs in lighter shades of brown/gray, and a pristine white pair for making the ladies weak in the knees.
We'll give him the OG Dad credit if he calls them tennies or trainers.

Well here it is February 16th and another contest is in the books.

First I’d like to offer thanks to all of you who participated in this years contest. I still believe this contest is great for getting to know other forum members from across the country as well as developing an understanding of the unique challenges whitetail hunters in other parts of the country face.

Secondly I want to congratulate all the successful hunters this year. There were 140 deer entered this year which is really good considering we had 154 participants. That makes this the highest kill per entrant rate this year than in any of the years I’ve been involved in this contest. Additionally the size of the bucks taken seemed to be bigger on a whole this year. There were four 12 pointers, one 11 pointer, nine 10 pointers, six 9 pointers and twenty five 8 pointers entered this year! That's a bunch of really nice head gear! Way to go guys.

This contest had one of the tightest finishes of any in my memory. The difference between first and second place was only two points and there was only two points separating the next 5 teams. Three teams tied for fifth place with 106 points. If this parity trend keeps up we’re going to have to consider implementing tie breaking rules in future contests.:tearsofjoy:

Finishing in third place was Team 7 with 108 points (one ahead of Team 2’s 107 points). Great season guys!

The second place team was my own Team 8 whose members carried my dead weight into second place with a total of 141 points. From a personal standpoint I want to thank my teammates for sharing their seasons with me. I truly enjoyed the ride.

This year’s First Place finisher is Team 5 with an impressive 143 points. Congratulations to @Arrowsquirrel, @Blacksmith, @CajunSlinger, @Chrighton, @cville_bowhunter, @EricS, @HuumanCreed, @Jammintree, @JASmith, @kobudo, @philsanchez76, @Unshackled, @VASteve and @Wirrex! You guys really knocked down a bunch of deer this year. Well done and Congratulations on a total team effort!

Finally, I want to thank @redsquirrel for hosting the contest again this year and letting me keep score again. I look forward to it every year and really enjoy sharing in everyone’s success. Once again I also want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for participating. I hope you found it as enjoyable as I did. I’m already looking forward to sharing the 2023 season with you all.

I'm glad you enjoy it so much @boyne bowhunter because I can't thank you enough for keeping score for us!

Based off videos I have seen, he may need deer meat and a shoe fund donation :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy::p

That's what happens when you have snowshoes for feet. Every pair of shoes I buy (and every pair of boots and hockey skates too) end up tearing out in that same spot. :)
I have a set of unused Crocs with your name on it @boyne bowhunter !!
Arrrgggghhhh! NEVER!:tearsofjoy:

Thank you @elk yinzer . You can't be wearing the lady killers out in the woods.

You know it . . . I'm and old guy, dad and grandad. I've hit the point where I'm not gonna change and don't care what others think . . . . crotchety old man syndrome. :)

I appreciate all of the thanks and accolades guys but really all I do is put point counts in a spreadsheet next to a name. It's pretty easy being scorekeeper and it keeps me in touch with all of the deer you guys are killing during the contest. It really is a labor of love.

The guy who really deserves the credit here is @redsquirrel for his vision in starting and keeping this site open creating friendly place for"friends who've never met each other" to congregate and share an only for fun deer contest. A lot of credit also goes to each of you for recognizing that its only for fun and not taking this too seriously. My hats off to all of you.

Ay! He's humble too! (But we already all knew that)

Next year will be 10th annual deer hunting contest here on Saddlehunter.com. I thought I'd take a moment and offer congratulations to our members who've been on multiple winning teams over the years.

With two wins each under their belt are: @Bowhunter41002 (2016, 2018), @GCTerpfan (2019, 2021), @huck72412 (2016, 2018), @Nutterbuster (2019, 2021) and @Wirrex (2019, 2022).

However, if you want to win, it appears you need to be on this guy's team. @EricS now has notched 4 wins in 9 years (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022). SMH . . . Congrats @EricS!

Thanks all I really love this contest and it is so fun seeing all the killers out there. Amazing group of great hunters. I also thank @boyne bowhunter and certainly @redsquirrel for all the extra duties. We are blessed to have such great people at the helm along with all the other moderators. I thank my team members this year on team three...... ya ya ya ya..... we were last, but we gave it the good old try..... ole' @gcr0003 was out there racking up points I believe up till last week or close to it. So, we may have the lowest number of actual points but we still had a great time doing it. I feel bad as all of the deer I shot were not out of a saddle this season. Anyway, thanks and for anybody sitting out wondering if they should enter the contest next season.... don't wonder.... do it!!!

Formal petition to allow a single point in the place of either deer if a deer is shot from the ground but saddle is in possession/worn. Adds incentive for participation from the bucket sitters, pacsest players and ground blind gents, not to mention the spot and stalkers or the (shudders at the mention) tree stand stalwarts... without taking emphasis away from intent of site: saddle hunting.

Or just leave it as is and keep having a great time.

I second the motion!?!?

Don’t forget us trackers… who would wear a saddle on the track if that what it took to get points!
