So the camera is just there to torment you…!I'm in Kansas. Camera is about 100 yards from my back door. Unfortunately I can't hunt anywhere close besides my back yard and they don't hang around during the fall.
Yes, unfortunately. I am good friends with 2 of the guys that hunt right around here so it's fun to talk to them about the deer that are in the area. Plus I like to watch the deer and know what's going on, I watched a doe and fawn back there during breakfast this morning. So the camera is just there to torment you…!
You seem to be doing just fine !Yes, unfortunately. I am good friends with 2 of the guys that hunt right around here so it's fun to talk to them about the deer that are in the area. Yeah, I only have 3 cams out at this point and I leave them alone.Where are all your guys velvet pictures? Post some up!
Nothing great but you wanted velvet. But up until two days ago I thought this kind of growth was average to normal progression for “decent” antler growth. I know otherwise now!! I was looking at a tract of hunting property that just recently went up for sale. It is so thick I could only walk through about 200 to 300 yards along its northern edge. It was after work and supper so it was getting to be key movement time. After startling a gobbler on a somewhat grown over and brushy field adjacent to the property I’m looking at, I saw the distinctive reddish hew of a summer deer coat about 75 yards away from me next to a cluster of trees. I threw my binocs up…… boom! I couldn’t believe the velvet rack I was staring at!! Beyond its ears already, noticeable brows and deep distinctive main beams with 2 inch tines at least already. Bases looked massive. I couldn’t believe it. He was with another buck that look like these other bucks I have picks of below but not the same land or deer. I think I found a colossus!! I was facing northeast. He wind was from the west he was northeast of me. He didn’t see me but was m thinking the other buck caught a whiff. Anyway. Because I don’t live in a big buck state, I was very surprised at what I saw….. you dudes in Iowa, Kansas, MO, Indiana, WI, OH, etc… what stage of antler growth should we be seeing right now? This thing looked like a mid July buck already!!!Where are all your guys velvet pictures? Post some up!
Will he stay or will he go?! That’s the question.I can’t get that deer out of my mind!!! It’s tainting my analysis of the property though. My buddy and I are walking the property Sunday afternoon. I’m not kidding when I say I need to take a machete to get through all the multiflora rose patches.
