That’s what the air tag is for!
Just playing devils advocate here, but wouldn’t your charged IPhone do the same as an AirTag? All you have to do is share your location right?
That’s all well and good, you’re welcome to do as you see fit, but your philosophy is don’t drive and you won’t get in a car accident.Bottom Line: Don't leave anything behind to be stolen! This is my philosophy....on private and x10 for public lands.
I don't need to know what's going on while I'm not there. I'm a hunter and therefore, I read signs of what's going on, figure it out and that's where I hunt. I've never had anything stolen, because I was currently using it or it was on my back to and from a location.
If I run into other hunters, I always ask where they're hunting, so I can hunt elsewhere....and I tell them that's why I'm asking. Especially, on public land, there's plenty of property for everyone to hunt. If I know where they're hunting I can use their location, scent, noise, etc. to my advantage by hunting in a location that will push the deer my way. I've done it, it works and is a simple way to keep everyone happy, while I'm busy killing deer.
I receive pictures of his garage door dailyThe real question is, how long will you keep paying for the cellular plan so you will know if it gets redeployed?
Yes, situations like this brings the water to a boil…but when you turn the heat off the senses roar a reality of laughing it off…deer (buck) jealousy is a real problem in Michigan…and I could point my finger here but I’ll just say…it’s not like this in other states…last year an adjacent property owner from my Iowa lease came over to see my 6yr old buck…he said I’ll be back in a few minutes - he went home came back and gave me his left side shed…sportsmanship does exist - and unfortunately there’s bad apples amongst us… they usually don’t have many friends - I wonder why@HuskerInIowa
Aren't you going a bit extreme the other way? There are some things that have to be done and others that can be bypassed.
I agree that the person is a criminal, plain and simple. It's a shame that things didn't work out better.
Just the same, the OP did what he could and "human decency" doesn't live within the thief's moral code. People like that end up meeting with a bad end, by God's hand and he'll have to account for his bad deeds in that day.
It would and I have told her that but, The Love of My Life thinks this is a better solution so I roll with it. I weighs next to nothing and if it makes her happy I can live with it.
Well I’ve gone done this road and it remains in the same lane as local and county police…I was just told by a police officer at my archery shop that this is a matter their not going to pursue with a warrant. I suspect the camera technology will catch up in the future putting the thief criminal at real risk of being prosecuted…I thought the air tag was a great thought until this situation came to a legal close…these are not hunters…and if we had laws on the books that suggested losing hunting privileges for the rest of your life might change the behaviors for some but for a few none thinking misfits they would keep on doing what they do best and ignore the law…I’d say a 20 yr sentence for stealing treestands and cameras would be a good starting point with no plea deals in the cards…how about them applesWithout digging back through this thread @Silvio did you contact the local conservation officers? Some of your city, county and state law enforcement probably isn't as well versed in game and game related offenses as well as the conservation officers. If you haven't went the conservation officer route, I'd venture to assume you're probably looking at "hunter harassment" here and I'd hope for the sake of all of us hunters they'd stand up for you in this situation.
Once the police gave this address a visit they disarmed the AirTag afterwords since they were informed the camera was equipped with one. But I’m still receiving pictures inside the garageI've read the posts.
Do you track her? Cause if you're not, maybe you should be. Seems you have a strict set of rules. Does she? I'm speaking from experience.
Some of the Reveal models have built in GPS. What model was stolen?Once the police gave this address a visit they disarmed the AirTag afterwords since they were informed the camera was equipped with one. But I’m still receiving pictures inside the garage
Yes I can if she went anywhere without me. Rules aren't that strict, and mostly self imposed. She just worries that I'm okay not where I am. She doesn't drive now (medical reasons) and doesn't go anywhere without me to assist her, so I understand her concerns. It's not the first rodeo of either of us, and we've both got the same experience as you.I've read the posts.

Don't get me wrong. Getting a camera stolen stinks, but I suspect that these thefts, ensuing complaints, and drama surrounding them, including various forms of vigilante justice (back and forth), are the main reasons that game cameras are being banned in many jurisdictions. They are bound to be the source of endless frustration for game wardens, county sheriff's departments and police. States are looking at all the drama surrounding their use and just decide the best and cleanest answer is ban them. Then you don't have thefts, disputes over spots, people reading other people's cards, none of it.
I put out a few cameras each year. They are the cheap ones. When I turn it on, close the door and walk away I know there is some chance it will be gone when I come back. So far one has grown legs. Could I have probably found out who stole it? Yeah, but then what? It's really easy for things to get out of hand quickly. It isn't worth it.
I accept that am not going to change human nature. If I leave something out (anything) it has a chance of going missing. I'm sure that was true 10,000 years ago and will likely be true 10,000 years from now if people are still around.
For me personally, losing a camera is an avocational hazard of using them. It's the cost of doing business.
1/8" steel cable, some ferrules, a crimper and padlock. less than the cost of one of my cheap cameras.
i also put them up 1 stick and aider up so 12'. none stolen yet, but if so, of well. life goes on.
