I like my ASAT suit most for ground hunting. This year I made a proper head cover by taking apart the face mask that came with the suit, then took an old waterproof boonie hat, added some ghillie netting, jute string, and worked in strips of fabric from the ASAT face mask. Does a great job of breaking up your head/shoulders outline...

I don't put any of this on until I got everything situated especially since it packs up nice and compact.

Yep, I agree. As others have mentioned, you really can get away with no ghillie/leafy suit at all if you've got your background cover right. A suit just gives me extra confidence.

2 weeks ago I was setup on the ground and had a big nanny come within 5 yards of me (on the wrong side, of course!) and she just looked right through me.

Another vote for the ASAT leafy suit. If I'm up in a tree, & want to wear something leafy, that's my first choice. I hunt with a trad bow, so the face mask for me is a "no-go." I need to feel my anchor, & release with no interference.

So, my good 'ol Zippo lighter, & a wine bottle cork, & I have all of the face camo that I need. It comes off real easy, too! ;)

When I hunt on the ground, I'm partial to the Kill Suit Sapper (extra long jacket & no pants-sold by allpredatorcalls.com.) They come in different colors, have a hood, & for me, I think they do a better job of obscuring my shape when on the ground. They are bulkier to pack than the ASAT suit, however.

Once I'm up the tree & cooled down (if I got heated up during the climb,) I take my good 'ol Zippo, fire her up, burn the end of the cork, let her cool a minute, then smear the charred end on my face. Repeat until I get the coverage I want. Easy Peasy!

Also, make sure you put a horizontal line under each eye-if it's a sunny day, that helps in reducing the glare (just like my old high school football days!)

...Just make sure you get a REAL cork from your Real Boss's wine bottle-the rubber ones don't work so good... ;)

I live in South GA. What color pattern leafy suit do y’all suggest? I hunt in a bunch of different habitats such as pine, hardwoods, open ground with downed tress and bushes. I’d like to add some ground hunting to my options. I’ve been looking at the North Mountain shirt or even just getting a top and just wearing pants. What would y’all suggest?

I'd probably get Multipurpose or Sand storm. The top is way more important than the bottoms.

I have one from the same company. Excellent. Emailed a question once and the owner called from the road the same day and we talked for 30 minutes.

The arm and chest can get into your string and they are looser to fit over clothes. I wear a full length arm guard with mine and a chest protector designed to keep your giblets out of the string path.

sorry for resurrecting a dead thread - but I'm debating buying a leafy suit or just milsurp woodland camo top/bottoms?

plan to hunt mostly out of saddle in the deep south, so lots of thick vegetation will be hanging around until December or so.

It all works. Start with a head cover you will be comfortable hunting from and add to it if you feel exposed.
I’ve gotten really confident with ASAT since DIYing leafys and trying a few types.
You’ll be fine in milsurp or buy a leafy you can draw / shoot from and be done w camo buying for a good while

I have the First Lite leafy top and hood and really liked it during turkey season. I'll be using it during early bow this year.

Bought one of their jackets this spring. Has a hood so you don't have to worry about a head cover

Just the head cover and jacket is enough? And wear jeans or black pants with it?

I got one from these guys at the mobile expo this year. It’s a great, lightweight suit.

I’ve never used it, but I do like that North Mountain Gear… it looks quality.

Do you do this in addition to growing out a face ghillie during the season?

I'm a First Lite fan boy so I have the Phantom Leafy Suit and matching Phantom 3D Balacava in the fusion pattern because it matches the rest of my stuff. I really like that the top is a mesh base layer so I can wear it when its Hot or insulate underneath.
