Things I'm Changing after Saddlepalooza

Can the mini lineman's belt be used as the primary belt? If not what is the main reason? Rope wear?
I would suppose you could use one this small, though it wouldn't be very convenient I do not believe. Seems it would snag more when trying to move it, and adjusting the length of it is cumbersome compared to a thicker rope with a Ropeman 1 or 2 I would suggest. It's mainly just for going around branches; to always stay connected to the tree while unhooking your primary lineman's rope to overcome an obstacle on the tree. Just my thoughts; I've not used it yet.

I like a bulkier lineman's rope for rough barked, large trees. Flipping a smaller lineman's rope up the tree as you go can be a PITA on a big cottonwood or oak. Other than that, I'd be interested to hear what the boys have to say about this.

oops. I see some of the other boys already spoke.

There for a minute i felt like i missed out by not coming to saddlepalooza this year, but then i see all the money yall are spending on on stuff you saw there.

Maybe it was good for me not to go...... no, no, no , what am i talking about. I definitely missed out. Spending money on saddlehunting gear has become more of a hobby than actually hunting i think.

I am coming next year for sure, seeing some really cool stuff here. Thanks for sharing

Surprised nobody else has said this, but... it's definitely not climbing rated rope, which may be ok since you are just going around a limb and then going back? Dyneema won't handle shock loads like static climbing rope, so if you slide a bit then catch, it could be bad. I would also think the skinny rope would roll a lot more on a smooth bark tree as you are falling.

One look of that picture with them all wearing crocs was enough to make me realize I did the right thing staying home

I agree. I think its a good option for going around branches. Of all of the pieces in my system my lineman's belt shows the most wear and tear, I want something that can hold up to that. I even did quite a number on the 1,000,000,000 pound rated webbing that tropyline used for their lineman's belt.

I have a piece of 1 inch tubular webbing that I slide over my lineman’s belt to protect it from wear and tear. The tricky part is to make it long enough to protect the rope but short enough that it doesn’t go into the ropeman. The webbing has seen better days but the rope still looks new.

I’m also with @ImThere on the temporary linesmans belt. I just use my tether. It’s bulky but it is something I have to carry anyway. If I’m only going around one limb on the way up I can use my linesmans as a tether also. No need to swap back to linesmans.

Cabela's turkey catalog arrived today. Thinking about you "swamp people."

I have the same boot with 1200gram insulation. It's nice, but the sole is a little on the stiff side. I break lots of little twigs when walking.

Fit great and are very comfortable. They're LOUD! I hope they quiet down with use. No way I could sneak into a bedding area with these.

I don't use mine for hunting, but I have noticed that they make an audable squeak inside when walking with damp socks, and ALL rubber boots create damp socks from foot sweat.
Maybe a liner sock worn on the OUTSIDE of wool socks may quiet the squeak down?? I'm sure that there's a outer sock material that would solve the squeak problem.

What kind of noise are you talking about?

I believe he is talking about the chaps rubbing together.

I’ve had the squeak you’re talking about too when they get really sweaty. It’s only loud if I’m walking fast.
