Favorite Hunting Clothing Brand (where you like the camo pattern)

For ground hunting, ASAT works extremely well. I have quite a few of the ASAT clothing and have no complaints. I mainly use the ASAT 3D leafy suits and it does the job. Up in a tree, Scentlok works very well.

    Multi pin vs one pin

10 yard increments is a pretty common sighting technique. I've worked on a lot of bows over the years and see the sight pin arrangement. I pay attention to those things. The vast majority of hunters stay within 50 yards so using multiple pins will be constrained to 50 yards and less. If one sets...

    Multi pin vs one pin

Using multiple pins is a carry-over from the old days when bows were a lot slower and arrows where a lot heavier. There was a lot of arrow drop and it was necessary to have pins set at every 10 yards to retain any accuracy. But with today's modern compounds and carbon arrows, arrow speed is a...

    Multi pin vs one pin

I agree, the speed needs to be known or estimated. But instead of 5 yards, I would shoot 12 to 40 yards to calculate the drop. Anything under 10 yards will most likely give you some confusing results. Under 10 yards can cause you sight marking to be way off and depending on your peep height, it...

    Athens Archery Closing Down

A compound bow is a fairly simple device with few parts involved. So, every major bow manufacturer has as many patents as possible to protect their designs and they all file patents on different designs to keep other bow manufacturers from making new technology. There isn't really any room for a...

New Strings/Cables…ATA 1/4” longer than spec

Bow specs are just close estimates and can vary a little for several reasons like cam position, poundage, limb deflection, string/cable diameter. As long as the poundage specs out pretty close and the draw length measures correct, then the ATA and BH measurements aren't too critical.

We've been doing it wrong all this time.

I'm holding out for the transformer model that I can ride into the woods as an electric bike and then transform it into the electric tree climber.

    New setup for next year

I shot bows at over 120 pounds of draw weight with no problems. But with today's bow performance, I prefer to keep it light and shoot around 50-60 pounds. Shoot smarter, not harder.

    String cost rant.

String/cables plus installation will hit around $175-$225 range. It has gotten expensive but so has everything else on the bow. Most factory strings are pretty good and will last several years. If a person shoots a lot, 2-3 years the string/cables can be replaced. If a person doesn't shoot much...

    New strings surprised me

The lengths of the new string/cables will usually be a little shorter than the old set. Plus, the aftermarket string/cables diameters are usually a little different. This will change the draw length a little. The peep height will usually change a little. The nocking point and D-loop length will...

Electricians - what keeps killing my camera

My experience with cheap batteries is that they leak. Like others have said, leaking batteries will cause corrosion issues that are very hard to correct. Use better batteries and your failures will stop. Besides, better batteries last longer and this will even out the price over time. These...

    Injured shoulder exercises for archery?

The main thing is first learning how to properly draw the bow using the proper muscles as to not impinge the shoulder. This may require you to drop the poundage and build up your strength. Then you can increase the poundage a couple pounds a week until you get to poundage you want. As for your...

    Both Eyes Open?

Being cross eye dominant can be a problem as it forces a person to close their dominant eye when shooting. You can try to train your eyes to override the problem. You can start with a larger peep (5/16) and practice with it for a while. You may have to open/close your dominant eye several times...

I'm about to spend a few bucks.

I would try several different brands to see which one felt the best on your shoulder. Make sure you try them in their smoothest settings as some bows have the ability to have a hard or smooth draw cycle. Jack the poundage up several pounds higher than you intend to shoot as it will be more...
