    Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge

My buddy and I got drawn for a firearm hunt on big oaks wildlife refuge in Indiana. It will be our first time hunting there so I thought I’d ask if anyone has ever hunted there and would like to share their experience or advice. We picked area 58 since it seems to have one of the highest harvest...

    Live from the saddle 2022

Public wasn’t working for me either. I gave it 3 full days with only 1 doe in sight but way out of range. I finally hit my private honey hole on the fourth day and had a doe down within 2 hours. She even ran about 300 yards back towards my truck and finally dropped 15 yards from where I parked...

    Getting to know you thread

Mike, 47, born and raised in N MS, spent 3 years in the Army, moved to IN 10 years ago, been hunting and fishing since I was knee high to a grasshopper, after 20+ years in a climber I finally got into a saddle last year and have enjoyed every minute of it, married with 7 kids and 4 grandkids, I...

    1sticking

After 20 years of using a climber, this is only my second year saddle hunting and 1-sticking. For me it’s what works best and I can’t see changing from that. I’m not overweight and consider myself in “good” shape so I can’t speak to how it would be for someone not in shape. I’d say it may be a...

Squirrels: Favorite recipe? Shirt and pants? or tail and tug?

If you aren’t in a rush to eat them the best thing to do is let them soak in some salt water in the fridge for a week. This helps with getting any “game” taste out and allows the muscle fibers to break down so the meat is tender. Then I personally rinse and soak in buttermilk over night and fry...

    Mountainsmith Lumbar Pack

Has anyone tried this? I’m really considering taking pouches off of my saddle and just using a tactical belt or fanny pack to keep my gear in. I came across this and it looks like it would work perfect for me. ALPS OutdoorZ Deluxe Dove Belt, Brown, One Size https://a.co/d/iPBFLBA Sent from my...

2 Panel Saddle with One Sticking

I have the Cruzr Archon and have no issues with one sticking. I keep the straps up until I’m at hunting height and then adjust them to comfort

2 step or 3 step aider for one-sticking?

Definitely 3-step. I have 16” spacing but I’m 6’1” and slim. It would be too much effort with just 2 steps although I could do it. As said before, it’s nice having that 3rd step right there at you foot. Makes advancing up much easier
