PSA - You need a first aid kit

Stopthebleedingfoundation.org is another good resource. Depending on what you are wanting to do, they offer different classes. They have school based classes as well as combat based classes. You learn about every piece of gear in their IFAK and how to use it during scenarios. This group was...

PSA - You need a first aid kit

I don’t have any experience with it personally. I know several guys that run one and prefer it over the CAT or SOF-T. The multifunction of it does intrigue me, though. Could serve several purposes and cut down on the need for additional supplies. I have always used a CAT tourniquet, though. It...

PSA - You need a first aid kit

In addition to the various superficial wound kits, a tourniquet is an absolute must. We never plan to severely injure ourselves, but planning for when/if that time comes could be the difference between one of us going home. I actually carry two. If I ever need to fashion a splint, two can help...

    Rappel girth hitch/triangle

I can, but I am afraid it may be a while before I am able to unfortunately! I would suggest checking out the Rappelling 101 thread. Go all the way back to the first page and start from there. There are several videos and pictures that explain a lot of the methods being discussed in this thread...

    I need better boots... suggestion?

My primary boot that I wear are a pair of Merrell Moab 2 Tactical boots. They are waterproof for the times I come across a little bit of water that I was not prepared for. They are super comfortable. These are also my boots that I wear on duty. I have had multiple 16 hour shifts in which I was...

    Rappelling equipment for saddle hunting

This is probably the setup I am going to move to. Currently, I strap my bow to my backpack as I ascend the tree. Rather cumbersome whenever I am attempting to setup everything once I get to hunting height.

    Rappelling equipment for saddle hunting

30’ of 9mm Sterling HTP girth hitched around the trunk of the tree (will be retiring this rope soon and replacing with Sterling Oplux due to its ability to pack down into a smaller footprint) Black Diamond ATC Sterling Hollowblock fashioned into an Autoblock. 2 locking carabiners. One for...

"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

It has two horizontal straps that run across the bag. They could be used for sticks, a bow, or bulkier clothing if you are unable to fit the clothes in the bag. I preferred the Tool Box over the Tool Bucket because of the weight difference. I have no need to haul a stand and backpack at the same...

"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

It’s a bit of a temporary solution until I find a more permanent one, but I use tennis balls. Cut a slit in them and can fit them over the points. I’m not sure how much I will actually carry them in the pack, but this seems to work well for me so far. If I decide to make this my primary method...

"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

I received my Sitka Tool Box today and really like it. I am able to store my Predator platform, rappel kit, kill kit, and even my Wild Edge kydex holster that holds 5 Stepps inside of it. I usually walk in with my saddle on. So, I usually attach my Stepps to my saddle as I only walk...

    Rappel girth hitch/triangle

I could definitely see the struggle there. I have not setup my rappel line in that type of situation. Thanks for the insight should that situation ever occur!

    Rappel girth hitch/triangle

I always girth hitch my rope around the trunk. It’s the strongest point to attach to—not saying that a limb won’t hold. I just prefer to be overly cautious. I have not had an issue yet where I was not able to get the rope down and around limbs. I use a figure eight loop, as well. I have 30’ of...
