Looking for input/assistance with Skeletor Aiders

My only issue at the moment is that the aider tends to hang quite close to the trunk of the tree. Too close to pass my foot through unassisted. Basically I have to reach down and manually move the loop onto my foot to get anything more than a sketchy toe hold. It works. Not optimal. Has...

Looking for input/assistance with Skeletor Aiders

Fantastic advice all around, thanks guys! I made my first one at 14" and tested it. It felt quite short; I knew I could easily step higher. I ended up trying the full 18" (same as the distance between the bottom and top step on the stick), and it is quite manageable for me. I ran the rope...

Looking for input/assistance with Skeletor Aiders

I considered this at first. The thing I really like about the method in the video is how it retracts for storage. I'm not totally against trying this way and just using a gear tie to keep the aider coiled neatly against the bottom step..m

Looking for input/assistance with Skeletor Aiders

Hello Saddlehunters! I have decided to try sticks for the first time this year. Up until now, I have been climbing with spurs or the Wild Edge Steppladder system. With the WE Stepps, I have climbed using a full set of 12, I have used 4-5 with a knaider/swaider combo, and I have used as few as 3...

    PHANTOM COMFORT CHANNELS

I made my own adjustable amsteel bridge for my Phantom. I have the prussik and the bridge eye girth hitched now as opposed to looped through. They stay wherever I set them now.

    Phantom bridge prusik

I have the same issue. I ordered new Amsteel from a local supplier. I plan on making my own bridge. I will be splicing an eyebin one end of the amsteel to form a 4" or so eye in the end. I will girth hitch that to my saddle brifge loops on the left side of my body. I will then make a...

    Thumb release??

I'm currently running a Stan SX3. I am a much better shooter because of it; I had a lot of bad habits to unlearn from using a wrist strap for 15 years. Stan releases are not cheap, but they are worth it. As far as price is concerned; I cannot give too much advice on cheaper options. Maybe...

    Sticks vs Wild Edge Steps

I get it. Hasnt happened to me yet, but I figure it is only a matter of time. Doesn't take much to pop em sometimes. A big factor for me is that I am fully equipped to rappel. This upcoming season I actually plan to rappel as my primary method of descent. Either way, if you have a rappel...

Canyon Elite (Not Camo) By The Foot

Where are you located (which country)? In the unlikely event you are north of the border in Canada as I am, I would reccommend Maple Leaf Ropes in Brantford Ontario. Great guys to deal with, and they have C-IV in orange and green in stock. Just ordered orange for myself...

Knots For Tether/Lineman’s Rope Instead of Splice/Sewn Eye

I have spliced eyes on my Linesman and Tether ropes (11mm New England KM-III). They are bulky enough by themselves in my dump pouch I dont have room for a bulky know. I am tying my own eye for my rappel rope. I will likely use a Precision Knot and whip the working end onto the static rope.

Whose rockin the wild edge steps this year

I use 3 steps and a movable 4-step aider. I can comfortably get my feet to 18', 21' if I stretch it. Super light and packable; I carry the steps and aider on my saddle a.d it weighs in at 8.4lbs with everything. Just a small pack and my bow wraps up my total setup.

    Sticks vs Wild Edge Steps

I run 3 WE Steps and a 4-step aider. Love em. Weight is 3lbs. They hang off Nite-Ize Gear Ties on the back of my saddle. Total weight of my phantom setup including steps and aider and ropes is 8.4lbs. I have a small pack with my platform and my bow as well; thats it. When I reach the...

    Oplux tether

What is the diameter of the rope you are using for the prusik? I will be tethering with a Stirling Canyon C-IV line. At 9mm, it will be a bit thicker than your oplux, but still thinner than the 11mm lines many are using. I have 5mm and 7mm cord for my prusiks. I will be hanging off a...

    Rope setup questions

I ordered my rope; should be here by Friday! I went with 40' of Stirling C-IV Canyon in orange for my rappel line, and another 10' for my tether rope. I ended up with New England Ropes KM-III 11MM for my linesman rope. Turns out the rope company has made so many sales to hunters that they...

    Rope setup questions

I just ordered some 5mm Maxim TechCord and 7mm Mammut Nylon Static Cord for my prusiks. I will try both and figure out which diameter works best on my 9mm ropes. I also ordered a Ropeman 1. I will tether off of it. Given the concerns listed above about the Amazon copies, I will use it...

    Rope setup questions

I have wild edge steps to climb the tree, and a 4-step aider as well. I want to try spurs this fall if I can get my hands on a decent pair. As for a rope kit, I could order one from Tethrd, but with the exchange rate to CDN and duty it is going to be many times more than if I just make my own...

    Rope setup questions

Makes sense, thanks for explaining. I am trying the Lixada rope grab ascenders as listed in my first post. There is a link there.
