    Favorite "large" platform?

Compound, though I’m fairly large and shoot 30” DL. I agree, depth helps a lot, there’s just missing 2” to make use of it fully for me. I can shoot back against tree for the ”off side shot” but can't really aim away from the tree, not that I need to since it's easier just walk around tree if...

    Favorite "large" platform?

Even largest platform still won’t let you stand up and shoot away from tree. Sometimes you get lucky with crooked tree. Arsenal RZR Magnum is very light largeish platform. I have LWCG Ambush and it’s kinda awkwardly in the middle ground. Big to haul but not big enough to do anything a slightly...

What kind of rope is everyone going with?

Interesting observation, I've been using Petzl Volta 9.2 for two dozen climbs now. It's great, supple, dry cover treated dynamic rope. Knots easily, fairly easy to have friction hitches bite on it and works great with safeguard. Out of curiosity bought a piece of Beal Joker 9.1mm thinking it...

    Gear hoist

Late season problems, but with heavy jacket, bow and backpack using long rappel rope for tethering, I tie the end of the rope to backpack, clip the jacket onto that and then tie my pull cord between bow and backpack. Only one rope to dangle while climbing, paracord comes up with backpack, then...

    LWCG stand setups

Much easier to chop down extended than extend the regular. Regular would crowd even 1.0 depending on what bow you got.

The Effect of Dirt on Climbing Ropes

Do note the quality of the dirt. If it's mainly organic matter I doubt the effect is as severe. Avoid sand and fine dust and use dry treated rope if those can't be avoided. Most importantly avoid creating a situation that subjects the rope to anywhere near 60% of the mbs..

The Effect of Dirt on Climbing Ropes

Mammut recommendation for dry treated ropes makes sense in that light. Two ropes I use have the dry cover or "duratec dry" treatment where they just soak the rope after braiding and it mainly affects the mantel. But also the treatment wears off in time. What surprized me about Teufelberg test...

The Effect of Dirt on Climbing Ropes

One bit of redemption for hunters is, our dirt the ropes get exposed to is largely organic. Tree bark and moss etc. that doesn't have same abrasive properties as sand or chalk dust. Nevertheless, washing ropes is good idea. I've used mild dose of unscented, sensitive and hyper allergenic laundry...

    18x28 magnum would be great.

    Arsenal Platform

OOAL thing was still off the shelf boating hardware. RZR 1.0 had same idea with more complication, One-not really one-sticks have same concept too.

    bridge - Rope vs Amsteel

Exactly. Really makes you wonder if people who make these products have any idea what they're doing. Tapers are overlooked on almost everything. Continuous loops are spliced without rebraiding the rope around the splice, so there's nothing but the bury holding the weight on most prusik...

Linesman belt instead of linesman rope, input please

Btw wild country has released Ropeman 4 that has the smooth teeth again but with wider rope diameter rating.

random idea for guys that sew: make better boot blankets

Old sheep skin turned into boot blankets. The overflowing hair kinda gets in the way, especially when stepping around on the stand. Thought I'll buy another pelt, make a sandwich with felt sheet for the sole and change into sheep booties once at height. Making the sole stiff enough to stand up...

    Lightweight Climbing Sticks Selection Confusion

They develop like 1mm of movement in use. But I’m also 250lb Folding Shikars have lot more but still no worries of anything coming loose. They stack lower than Beasts. Is there some stick integration in Beast stand? I’m not buying inferior sticks for color coordination, hence I use the Shikars...

    Lightweight Climbing Sticks Selection Confusion

The leaning tower of six One-sticks comes to mind. Collapsing sticks pack nice but boy do I hate fiddling them open and closed every time.

    Yet another backpack thread

The frame allows to put most of that 50lb on your hips instead of your shoulders. After about 20lb it will be less strain overall if you can get it off your shoulders even if it adds some weight to the pack. Not only your shoulers get strained but the load on your shoulders restricts breathing...

    Lightweight Climbing Sticks Selection Confusion

Shikar and Shikar FXD. Tethed Ones I like Shikar FXD’s. They stack inline, fairly low profile, 9” step width, extremely aggressive standoff design. There are lighter sticks out there but OOAL makes well rounded offering. The step design allows to hook an aider to the end of the step if you...

    LWCG stand setups

Exactly. Some saddles work great as a harness for the stand but I prefer rock climbing harness for weight and bulk. Still allows to lean back and shoot behind tree if necessary, but I prefer to setup with good back cover so I rarely need to worry about it.
