Any shot will be close, but I like this little corner.

    LIVE from the saddle 2023

Got out yesterday AM with a buddy. Couldn't find a great tree and ended up in a four-trunked maple near a field edge. Got busted at 645 or so, right about the time he connected on a decent doe. A half hour later I had a doe down. Short tracks jobs for each of us but it took over 3 hrs to get...

    Saddling my kid up

Just getting the kids in the woods is important. There's a lot that can go wrong with being elevated. I'll have my boy in a ground blind with me this year with no plans to get in a tree any time soon. Plenty of deer have been killed from the ground.

    Replacement bridge

I did webbing with water knots when I was running a rock climbing harness and sit drag. It was easy and simple once I figured out bridge length. Then I went to the rope bridge that came with my Aerohunter Kite and went back to the webbing. Last year I used webbing with triglides. I felt better...

    Replacement bridge

Yeah. I was getting kids ready for camp when I got the link. I have both the tether and the bridge. The bridge is long. Here's the correct link: https://hangfree.co/products/sewn-adjustable-tubular-webbing-bridge?_pos=1&_sid=9c2cddce2&_ss=r

    Replacement bridge

I bought Hangfree's adjustable webbing bridge a few weeks ago. Quality seems great but it's a good bit longer than I need. It's probably 5' long and when adjusted to the bridge length I like, there's a lot of excess webbing. I will probably end up cutting it shorter...

Help me with truck bed dimensions

I agree with the sentiment that you don't need a truck for hunting, and I can't stomach the price of them. I went for a midsize SUV with a decent AWD system. If you need to haul stuff get a utility trailer for under $1000. I've had deer in the back of a Subaru Impreza, and I loved the rear...

    Hunting dead trees!

I killed my first bow deer from a dead ash tree. I figured it was fine since I'm 130 lbs. It was a poor decision and I got lucky. It swayed a ton in a light breeze. When I went back a week later, that tree had fallen down.

Looks like that cutout could fit the toe of a boot.

Outfitter Spartanforge, is anyone using it and what is your opinion?

Try the lambda layer @enkriss . Swipe the compass in the lower corner. You can go to settings (gear icon in the lower right) from the lambda layer to select contours, etc.

Outfitter Spartanforge, is anyone using it and what is your opinion?

If the UAV layer is available, the images are legit and I doubt you'll find better ones on another app. Images for my area were just updated for October and I've found several new trails through CRP fields I didn't know were there. The website is up and running too. I've been waiting on mapping...

    Cruzr Mini Seeker platform?

Thanks for the insight @Mschmeiske . Interesting that you don't like the angled portion. I thought that bit was pretty slick for a leaner. I was considering getting the mini seeker when one inevitably gets posted here this winter. I'm also a smaller guy with size 9 boots. I don't need a ton of...

Outfitter Spartanforge, is anyone using it and what is your opinion?

I only use it for the UAV base layer. The imagery is way better than either OnX or Huntstand. I primarily use Huntstand for waypoints, tracks, etc. Huntstand (and OnX) has them beat in every feature aside from imagery. How'd you get a desktop version????

What pack do you use for whitetail meat hauling?

I just picked up the Alps Commander Lite on camofire for cheap. I'm eager to see how it works out. The plan is to keep it in the vehicle until it's needed. I'm okay with multiple trips to the car versus dragging a deer solo.

    Climbing, Pack On or Off?

    1. Why? I don't like pulling up my pack after I'm up the tree, and I keep my platform in my pack for the climb. 2. Climbing methods that apply? Three to four XOP mini double sticks with a Versa aider. 3. Approximate weight of pack during climb? Less than 10 lbs for sure, maybe 7 to 8lbs. 4...

    Stroller suggestions

Congrats! We had a Graco single that the infant carrier dropped in, then went with a Graco double of stone sort when the oldest could either sit or stand. It's obvious but stick with the same brand so bases for vehicles work with the stroller. When it comes to infant carriers, I think we found...

    Climbing sticks

You're 5'6". How heavy are you? I ran full length Hawk Helium sticks for a few years and recently switched to XOP double minis. If you're just getting started, it's hard to beat the Hawk (or even XOP) price. They are heavier than the other options but the Hawks pack pretty well. There are...

"A Slow, Deliberate, Emotionless, Open Conversation" About Hunting Accidents

True but considering the number of hunters that hit the woods (dozens to hundreds of thousands per state) if there were an appreciable number of firearm incidents with hunters we'd know about it. Right?

"A Slow, Deliberate, Emotionless, Open Conversation" About Hunting Accidents

Honestly, it makes me wonder if there are some reporting issues (e.g., maybe NY under reports tree stand falls). Regardless, the odds of a firearm incident in either state are essentially zero.
