    Platform with an additional step?

Glad to know that the amsteel on the predator is solid. What I am looking into is using a single silent approach or Cranford rope step in their factory capacity as the extra step on the strong side. It would serve the same purpose as what Allegheny Tom posted with the squirrel step threaded on...

    Platform with an additional step?

To clarify, I am only looking to use the amsteel as my platform strap. The step would be on its one strap. I would be replacing the WE step that I am currently using with the cranford or SA step. The downside that I see to either of those is that they don’t seem as solid as the WE step. On the...

    Platform with an additional step?

Anyone tried a single cranford rope step or silent approach step as an alternative to thread a step on the platform strap? I’m looking into switching to an amsteel daisy chain for my platform strap.

    DIY straps/buckles for spikes

This has been my first season using climbing spikes and I am hooked. The factory straps have some noisy metal buckles that are not well suited for hunting. I replaced those with 1” heavy duty poly webbing and have tethrd T-hooks as a buckle system. I am able to get the calf strap good and tight...

    Platform with an additional step?

I’ve been using a single wild edge step on my strong side just above platform height this season. It has made a significant difference in comfort and mobility in the tree. I will give the step on the platform strap a try before next season. WE steps are too frustrating to me.

    SRT pre-sets with paracord

I can see the continuous loop working for DRT since you are using 75’ of rope but not for SRT with just 40’ of rope. I think the method I described above will work, but I need to rest it. Keychain biners are cheap. I don’t mind replacing them every year if I need to. What are y’all looking for...

    SRT pre-sets with paracord

How are you getting the tag end of your climbing rope through the bight? I assume you’re not using a long enough climbing rope that you can have both ends within reach one you have pulled it up. I was envisioning having to run the paracord through the bight with the tag end of the rope to follow.

    SRT pre-sets with paracord

I would think that you could tie a loop in each end of the paracord and clip it together with a cheap keychain biner. Probably want to pull it up 10’ or so from one end so that the biner isn’t sitting there at eye level.

    SRT pre-sets with paracord

I like the fishing line idea. We are flush with squirrels. What strength do you use? Is it necessary to replace with paracord during season or can you just use the fishing line?

    SRT pre-sets with paracord

I have a couple of dynamite trees that I have hunted in the past that are some species of oak that is super limby. The limbs provide for great early season cover but make climbing them a PITA. I’ve used rapid rail sticks for pre-sets in the past but I’m tired of putting them up and taking them...

Can/do you walk in with your saddle?

It depends on the situation for me. If it is hot, I’m probably packing it in. If I’m in the mountain and have a long hike, I’m packing it in. If it’s cool and the walk is under a mile or so, I’m wearing it in. I used a single dump pouch for most of the season without any issues of it falling...

    Back to sticks

I wanted to like them as well but just couldn’t do it, mainly due to the fiddle factor. I ended up settling on 1-sticking. I haven’t decided if I will sell my stepps or keep them for presetting on a couple of really limby trees that I hunt. Probably will end up selling them though. I just bought...

Distel or Autoblock loop for rappelling

I do it this way and it works just fine. I do like the method mentioned above for setting up with the auto block and just loosening the distel so that it slides freely for the retrieval. I will play with that during the off-season. It does add another carabiner to the equation, but I typically...

Built in Bridge back up with Oplux.

How about tying an alpine butterfly in the tag end of your tether and clipping that to the lineman loop on one side of the saddle. I’m going to experiment with it. I use my rappel line as my tether, so there’s plenty of rope to work with regardless of the size of the tree.

Aider and Wild Edge Steps - Getting down??

I have had a step un-cam before. It was a little unnerving for sure. After that I played with the scenario at ground level and under no circumstance did the knot fail. That made me feel a lot better about it. With practice, it becomes much easier to get the step spacing correct.

    Warm hunting clothing

Natgear has the best pattern imo and they are located right here in Little Rock, but their gear is not high quality. The sizing is extremely inconsistent. I have their fleece vest and had to get it in a small...a year later got the full zip fleece and had to get it in a large. After a lot of...

    Camo vs solids

It’s pretty common around here to see the OOSER duck hunters walking around Walmart or sitting at the Mexican restaurant wearing full camo, face paint, and waders with 10 duck calls draped around their neck. It’s quite comical. I will often wear sweatpants and a hoodie on my way to and from...

    Camo vs solids

I haven’t ever tried squinting at them but I try to use my peripheral vision as opposed to looking directly toward them. I’ll give the squinting a try next season. I’ve also never been much for face paint...mainly because the OOS duck hunters around here have been ridiculed by the locals for...
