    New from Illinois

Hey, check with your base commander and see if you can hunt the ground near the airport. I'm civilian so I was not allowed but I did learn that this perq is available to those active military.

    Best sticks for me????

You might want to look at a couple of options outside of "sticks". First is the Wild Edge Stepp Ladder. It's actually a bag of separate "rungs"or steps that are strapped onto your tree. Current users (me, too) are cutting back on the number of steps they buy, using the Aider/Knaider combination...

    Saddle and Crossbow

Excellent point. I also use a mono-pod brace. It makes a big difference in stability. And I have noticed that when using it I don't tire as easily just holding my xbow up at the ready. For me, waiting for the right moment to shoot is the hardest. Getting tired and starting to shake is the...

    Newbie making sit drag

Only banged up. But what a lesson that was! Always have two attachments to the tree.

    Leg Loops?

I fell out of a SitDrag. It wouldn't have happened with leg loops. All the YouTube folks said it wouldn't happen but it did. From my experience, I would strongly recommend that you keep them in place otherwise you might find your expensive saddle was also a ticket to the hospital. But hey...

    Base layer wool

Merino is the way to go. It will keep you warm even when its wet. When you wash them in scent killer, use cold water and a cool dryer setting.

    Saddle as Deer Drag?

A Sit Drag is light and compact, and fairly cheap. Using it across your chest makes it easier to drag. If you really want to carry it out, why not bone it out and just carry the meat in a pack? A thin, "finger point" knife is cheaper than an SD. PS Too bad you are married. It would be neat to...

    Newbie making sit drag

I fell out of a Sit Drag! DO NOT USE IT ALONE. Use a climbing harness with the SD on your body. Once at height place a bridge for SD and clip in. That way you have two safety lines. There is a DIY hunter that added a fleece back rest and seat cover to his SD and that looks like a good way...

    Saddle and Crossbow

Try using the bridge to support your arm. Keep the xbow mid body and pointed up so moving to either side in minimal. If you took off the sling you'd better tie the xbow to yourself in case you drop it!

    Treesaddle Recommendations

It is available as the JX3 Hybrid. Kind of neat, a "saddle" and pack all in one.

Predator Platform broke on me last night

Yow! Did you fall? And sh*t what a way to miss out on a hunt.

    I’m sold

before you buy more sticks, check out the aider/knaider. You might just decide to become a one-stick hunter. But I think the Double Rope Technique (DRT) is probably the slickest way to get up a tree. Look at New York Saddle Hunter forum. You can find them on YouTube, For a good intro search...
