Looking for input from the guys running these and your weight and if any issues. I’m 175 without gear. Was planning on running bushings everywhere bolts go through as well. Any input would be appreciated.

I run 1/16 sticks with holes drilled to lighten them. They flex a bit while my full weight on them 210lbs, but still straight as an arrow.

I wouldn’t waste my time but that’s just me. I weigh 190 and never had a problem. My steps fit my sticks especially tight and there isn’t any movement to oval to holes.

Wouldn’t waste time installing bushings?

I used bushings. No problem at 230lbs.

You had a source for optimally fitting bushings if I remember correctly. True?

The ones I got from aluminumspacers.com needed to be filed down some to fit in the tubes. Not a big deal, but new guys might prefer to avoid the extra step.

Yes please share if found the perfect aluminum spacer! Think I’m gonna order some 1/16” tubing to test out.

I weigh about 230 with gear on and I've never had an issue with 1/16th. I don't have any bushings in my sticks either.

I got my spacers from aluminumspacers.com. and did have to shave a very small amount off of 3 out of the 12. I did notice that the orientation of the tube/spacer made a difference in fit. Not a big deal to file off a hair to make the perfect fit or test fit the tube/spacer/steps prior to drilling. You certainly can do without spacers, but for the small amount of weight spacers add and the fact that you don’t have to worry about the durability of the stick it seemed worth it to me.

You can order from Dan-O
Or

I would suggest Dan-O. Get your steps, stick, standoffs, hardware etc. all in one place.

Thanks for posting links guys.

After 5 hunts on the year so far, three of which with my DIY sticks and two 1-sticking, I am convinced that these DIY sticks are the bomb. At just under 7 lbs for 4 they are light enough, and while all sticks suck to pack in, nothing beats the safety, ease and security of climbing with sticks. So much better than 1-sticking. So much better than aiders on WEs or fewer sticks.

Even with the weight of my JX3 I'd rather carry my 4 sticks than deal with the issues with 1-sticking. Just my 2 cents.

To the guys who have drilled holes in there 1/16th sticks, do I need to space them a certain amount and then stagger them from one side to another to make sure they are still sturdy? recommendations? I’m only 140# and no more than 155# with gear.

Mine are half inch holes every inch on center for front and back. Didn't drill holes on the sides because it's already crazy light and I only saved like 2 ounces doing front and back. I'm 230 with gear on right now and no issues.

So that would be a 1 lb weight saving if drilled all 4 sticks. This is why I’m thinking of buying some 1/16th tubing and not drilling. Gonna be time consuming drilling all those holes lol.
