1.Tether or Linesman/or both?

This is my first year, full-time saddle hunting. I've made some adjustments and changed a few things along the way. I have the method 2, use 2/3 sticks, with a 3 step aider on bottom and a 2 step aider on 2nd stick. I also recently started utilizing my rappel rope as a bow pull up rope, which made me want to also use it as a tether while climbing. So my question is, does anyone climb with just a tether because I have not figured out how to hang sticks on just my tether without my linesman. I know both the linesman and tether used in conjunction is the safest but was curious if anyone climbs with just a tether? Second question is about rappelling. I utilize a figure 8 and move my schwabisch hitch down to my linesman to use as a autoblock/brake. Anyone else have problems with their autoblock getting close to their figure 8? Is there a way to make sure this does not happen. Any help is greatly appreciated.

No reason you can't hang on your tether. That's what most one-stickers are doing. I think most people just find the hip to hip contact point easier to work with when climbing multi-sticks.

The easiest way to space out your gear is to lengthen your bridge away from the linesmans loop your autoblock is on. Or if you have a short/fixed bridge, girth hitch a climbing sling to extend it.

only people climbing with just their tether are those doing the one stick method, and even then, and i do personally, would still use my linesman in conjunction.

for the rappel, i use a standard prussik loop autoblock and have never had it get too close....im wondering if you're not tending it correctly or you just need to use something other than the schwabisch for that application.

Thanks guys. I think you both hit the nail on the head. I had been running a short bridge at the beginning of season but decided to lengthen it last night. Not only was it more comfortable, but it also kept my autoblock away from my figure 8. Additionally, I think the legs of my schwabisch are too long, which is also not helping. I'll make some adjustments tonight. Thanks again.
