1st attempt at SRT

I have gotten pretty good with throw ball. Can usually hit my target crotch/branch on first or second attempt up to about 40ft. Just like anything. Practice practice practice.

I tried a Big Shot today in my back yard and wow. Hit target crotch in a white oak about 90ft up on first attempt.

I still leave paracord loop presets in a lot of trees so I can hunt early morning. Afternoon hunts I will either bring my throw bag or just use one of my presets.

I set 5 of these mason's twine loops last week. I used one on Thursday. I haven't seen any deer in about 7 hunts. On Thursday, I walked out in the dark and as I was putting my stuff in my truck, I scanned the woods with my headlamp and a pair of shining eyes was looking back at me. They moved so I knew it was eyes. I was walking hundreds of yards through thick woods and they are hanging out by the parking lot. Sneaky creatures.

For the guys who are using SRT, do you just hang from your belay device at hunting height? Or do you change over to a friction hitch or separate tether?

I plan on changing to standard tether, putting climbing rope in pack but leaving it girth hitched to tree

I change over once everything's set and I'm settled down to hunt. You don't have to do so but it's less metal to make noise.

And depending on the height of the limb you're climbing on it you'll have to switch over anyways to have the right angles

I switch to tether most of the time. Depends on where I am hanging. Often climbing rope is over a branch much higher than I want to hunt so not comfortable. Once in my tether, I slide my belay device up and out of the way and tie climbing rope onto bridge as a backup tether. All climbing rope is then pulled up and stuffed in my pack.
