2022-2023 Goals

My goal is to learn more about hunting white tail. I am very new to hunting and feel overwhelmed with all there is to know. I just want to harvest one deer. I’m enjoying the ride.

I always aim to just improve from the year before.... so I have have multiple ways I can improve... harvest more than one deer...harvest a mature buck (oldest so far is a 2.5 yr old)... dial this piece of public over been working on for the last 2 years in...as long as I improve I'm happy... I'm much more confident in my shooting this year and I feel like I have a better idea of how deer move... so I just love that I'm learning.

I kill a lot of deer every yr but always give it away. Bought an electric canner & would like to can some backstrap and have it be good enough to want to keep it up.

I'll add this one.

I put Amos on 4 deer last year to blood trail them. He found all but 1 (still feel bad, @Jwiggins762!). I want to put him on 4-5 more this year. I feel like one day that may pay dividends.

Hey I appreciate you coming out and helping, and I did end up finding her so it's all good. If I'm in the area and need a dog in the future I'll give you a call.

Edit: just ate some deer tacos from that deer last night.

My goal this year is to shoot every doe that gets within 15 yards of the tree I’m sitting in on any given day with my recurve. That would include getting my first kill with a traditional bow. I started to really enjoy deer meat and last year I hunted antlers and didn’t shoot any does so I didn’t have any to eat. Shooting for at least two deer, but would go up to 4 or 5. I need to make up for not killing anything last year. The only way to get better at killing deer is to kill deer in my mind. Last year wasn’t completely a loss. I learned a lot, saw more deer than I ever had in seasons prior, and had several opportunities at high quality bucks. I was just starting to pattern deer in one area, but now I moved and the environment is completely different. I plan to just go out and do some simple hunting. I can’t wait!

Force myself to buy a new stand up freezer by harvesting more than 1 deer this year.... in previous years I've either got a buck early then been just out of range of a doe for the remainder of season, or I've harvested a doe early then had more does sitting g under me all season with an either sex tag burning a hole in my pocket... either way... I haven't punched 2 tags yet... so a full freezer is the goal
