2023 Trail camera thread

View attachment 93094View attachment 93095I have seen a mess of groundhogs in my life but never witnessed one climbing…well, anything. I didn’t even know they could climb at all, since they’re so fat and whompity while on the ground.
I've actually witnessed this myself, but it was only a few feet high in an old apple tree that was leaning pretty hard.

This guy used to show up in December but this year he finally took the local alpha role. Man he’s thick. I made an aggressive move and saw him Sunday for the first time at about 50 yards but he’s not yet been leaving the thick stuff until dark so far.

Holy crap that’s a fat deer. Gotta be in the 4/5/6 years old range, no?

@DroptineKrazy @DelaWhere_Arrow I don’t know exactly but yes 5.5 or older safe bet. Last year he was a go getter, would get outta bed at dark, head a mile down the road to hit a corn pile (I text a neighbor) and come back. He looked almost
the same just a touch smaller, looks like a real bruiser now - think he’s running the show in our section. Have some patterns, making some moves, but so far he’s been real nocturnal other than a thick area with swirling winds very tricky to hunt.

I can’t wait for the LftS2023 post after you arrow him.

Check out the spots on this mature doe’s back. Anybody seen this before? Sent to state biologists but no reply yet

I'm going out on a limb and saying it's a yearling...just a big girl.

I also look at their tail and judge age, and this one looks small-ish = young.

The term yearling applies to a deer 1 year old. At this time of year somewhere around 1 year four months.

Agree. Assumed he meant 6mo since he thought it was normal to have spots. Ive never seen a 1.5yo with spots
