I can’t believe you all let me slide this long without posting an official results tally!
Seriously, I got distracted the last week or so and completely forgot about it. The season’s contest officially ended on the 15th of February so here are the results for the 2024 season.
Before I begin I need to acknowledge and thank @redsquirrel for, not only holding this contest again but for continuing to host this uniquely awesome forum. I for one have learned an awful lot about hunting, saddle hunting and other life related stuff here. Even more so, I feel I have made a lot of friends here, most of whom I’ve never met in person, that I otherwise never would have crossed paths with. So a continued Thanks to You! Mr @redsquirrel for everything you do.
I hope all of you who participated in this season’s contest enjoyed it as much I did. It really does feel to me like an old fashioned hunting camp atmosphere where we come together and discuss our day’s events and our plans for tomorrow’s hunt. Its in this way we share in each other’s successes and misses and learn from each other. The congratulations, commiserations and associated good natured ribbing are just part of the camp atmosphere. Thanks to all of you who participated for sharing your season’s with me, . . ah, . . . us.
Special congratulations to all who were successful in harvesting deer in 2024. In the course of this year’s contest there were 135 deer submitted, 69 bucks and 66 does. That was the fewest total in the time I’ve been handling the score but that’s not all that surprising since this is the fewest contestants we’ve had in that same time frame. On the positive side of that is that we had the highest deer per competitor average this year than any other year. Not only was it higher it was significantly higher. Congrats on some superb killing this year! I’ve posted the breakdown by year at the end of this post if you’re interested.
Now for the individual Team Results.
Third Place goes to my own teammates, Team 6, with a total of 131 points. Our team submitted 14 deer (9 bucks, 5 does) out of a possible 26 (13 members x 2 deer apiece). That’s a pretty good effort team. Way to get it done! On a personal note, I really enjoyed sharing the season with you guys, Thanks!
Second Place goes to Team 1 who beat us out by 4 points on the season, one lousy deer
, to finish with 135 points. These guys had an impressive total of 18 deer (10 bucks, 8 does) submitted including a couple of upgrades. Way to go guys! That’s a really good season.
And the 2024 Season Winner is . . . . Team 9. No surprise here, these guys lead almost the whole season. I think @redsquirrel messed up when put this group of pure deer killers on the same team. They finished with a very impressive 163 points, one deer away from the all time record of 167. This team submitted an unreal total of 21 deer (11 bucks, 10 does) this year. There are barely any empty spaces in the spreadsheet next to these guys names. What a tremendous team effort at killing bucks. Congratulations to @Apex7, @Black Titan, @bowhunthard88, @GCTerpfan, @Glenn, @Just_Hangin_N_GA, @Kuk09, @LtMoe66, @Micneador, @NATHAN, @Tree2Tree and @Werk. If you’ll remember my advice from last year, if you want to win you want to be on @GCTerpfan’s Team. This is his 4th time on the winning team (2024, 2023, 2021 and 2019). You better watch out, he’s coming for the title @EricS. Congratulations Team 9 again. Every time someone started to close the gap this season you guys responded, Well done!
On a personal note, I want to thank everyone here for their participation and adherence to the rules. One of the hardest part of this contest for me is when entries need to be disqualified due to the lack of saddle in the photo. Unfortunately it happens more than most of you know. I understand it can be difficult to remember in the heat of the moment and I truly understand. However this year, for the second year in a row, I can't recall a single instance where an entry needed to be disqualified for this reason. Outstanding job and a sincere Thank You from me to you all.
Speaking for everyone here, Thanks again @redsquirrel for hosting the contest! We certainly couldn’t do this without you and we really appreciate the opportunity to interact with each other and share in our virtual hunting camp. I know I personally look forward to it every year. As always I'm already looking forward to 2025's contest.
Have a great offseason everyone! Be safe and get ready for 2025!
