2024 Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

I honestly have no idea. If I'm flat footed I would say I'm plodding along trying to go slow. If I'm trying to run faster or normal I'm not sure how I land. I've never had any coaching or anything as far as running
I have to think about staying on the front of the foot or I will be heel to toe or flat. Seems for me that mostly is a function of stride. When I get my stride stretched out a little it is easier to stay on the front of the foot. I am certainly no runner though.

Yeah I would say the choppy form is from trying to slow down, in order to run longer. Maybe I don't know how to run fast? I really just go how fast I feel like, which is usually zone 2 on strava, sometimes z3.
If you're running 8min miles in zone 2 then you can probably just ignore my advice. What's giving you your heart rate figures? Zone 2 is my goal for "easy" runs. I also struggle to run slow though and most of the time that ends up in zone 3 instead. Going slower is definitely harder than running fast IMO and I really struggle to not look at pace when attempting to do so. From what I've read, your heart rates zones are the easiest way to adjust your running for slow, tempo, 5k, whatever run you want to do. Since everyone runs at different paces.

Garmin vivioactive 5. I've wondered about it's accuracy before, sometimes I've even called bs. And definitely thought I was dying and my watch says you're fine bub. I am no runner or star athlete guy, not even when I was a young fit fella. I wonder if I should adjust the fit or try it on my other arm. I do have a scar from surgery on both sides of my left wrist, but no tattoos or anything. 3 suture anchors is there too.

Well I spose I better do some digging.

New pr on the mile today, (7:42) at least my heart rate had an avg of 116 :tearsofjoy: for reference my now 3rd fastest mile (8:02)was an avg heart was 102 and I call BS on both.

Today I put the watch on my other arm and it was pretty consistent on the bone that sticks out my my wrist. I will admit to running a little harder because I knew I had a good one going, at about .5 or so I got a too fast alert and was actually feeling pretty good lings /heart wise. And i really just kept a steady pace, that alert was 7:40 pace. Shins and calves need a breather though. I didn't set out to hit any records, mostly just try the other arm.

107 is extremely low for that speed. For example when I was running a lot about 2 years ago I was 175lbs and 7min miles would be between 150-155 avg hrt.

I agree, there's no way my heart is that low. No way. I did feel great after the mile today but I'm sure my HR was over 120-whatever.

Also, I paid attention to how I'm landing. Left for is more mid to front. But some heel. Right was a little flat or heel I'd say. Definitely not even. Also, probably really helped distract me to put the good time in! I'm 5'7"+ a smidgen and in the low to mid 170s right now, for reference

Spend a few dollars and have a running coach or sports doc check your stride/form.

They'll typically video you running on a treadmill then analyze your step, strike, etc...it can really help you avoid injury in the long run. (no pun intended)

If it is, you're quite the specimen lol

Got several weighted walks in this week, around 16 miles total. Got stormed out on a bike ride and got 2 days of weights in. Putting new windows in our house, so might not get much else done this week. T- 1 Month and counting here in Illinois.

Well, did the gym thing Saturday. I did pretend I was working out a little loading and unloading a truckload of wood, but it was pretty easy if I'm being honest. Carried some people's coolers for them around camp lol. Back to the gym tomorrow, and probably back to running if I'm up for it. My gym has a 5k coming up I think I'll start prepping for, I need something to focus on anyway

3 Mile 45lb ruck and Lower body for today. Tomorrow is active rest so likely 30lbs incline treadmill or 12 mile cycle.

35 easy mins this morning. Had a coughing fit with about 5 mins to go but otherwise felt good. Can't quite shake this cough but I think I'm done being patient now and am just going to get back to running and hope it goes away. Probably do another easy run tomorrow and then a long run on Sunday. Deer opener on Saturday if the rain cooperates. Hoping to bust one with the kiddos

Scratched the easy run and tried to get after it pretty good on a 5k. 24:11. It's not what I used to do but it felt good and I know I left a little on the table in the first mile and a half. Day off tomorrow with a lot of travel and coaching 2 high school football games. Saturday off to hunt with the kids (hopefully my workout includes some deer hauling). Long run Sunday

6 mile ruck this morning, 1:22 including having to drop the ruck and shed a layer halfway through. 45 dry and a camelback full of water. Felt pretty good the entire way through, scared two homeless people sleeping on a bench on the bike path

Got back with it last night running. New route, more hills. Happy with it overall. Probably gym in the morning followed by some more running. Might get out today if the weather is cooperative
