2024 Off-Season Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

Eh running sucks for the first month or so, but then it starts becoming part of the routine and then you start to enjoy it. I do at this point, even on the struggle days.

Thanks - believe me when I say I can't believe I'm able to do it either. I started running in 2020 during the government lockdowns. I had started walking in 2019 and have just kept building on it since. Wish I started doing this 25+ years ago. Oh well, enjoying it now. I'm 70+ lbs lighter and in the best shape of my life. I'm planning on making a marathon my next goal, just finishing it, no real pace goal at this point. I love seeing the encouragement being shared in this thread for everyone's workouts.

Down 70 pounds and sub 7:30 miles is freakin awesome work!! Congrats!!!

110 flights climb mill, 1/2 mile 7% grade cool down treadmill. Dumbell bench press, one arm rows, machine incline press, reverse grip pull down, dips, reverse grip rows, and Pec fly. I'm beginning to lose strength from weight loss. I'm shooting for 3-5 more pounds and then try to maintain.

Been awhile since I posted here. Im keeping up with the 50-60 running miles a month. Which isn’t a ton for some but last year I ran 125 miles for the entire year and I’ve now already passed that. I ran a half marathon (for fun) under 2 hours in February. I also bought an actual pair of running shoes (Hoka Clifton 9). I competed in my first 5k in 10 years this past Saturday and ran a 21:09. Placed 11/110 (some walkers). I have a 150 mile, 10 person relay race in April, and a half marathon in June. I think I’ve officially fell in love with running.

Love seeing all the posts and motivation. Keep it up ya’ll!

Great work guys! I haven’t been to the gym in 2 days but still got two workouts a day in. Just been splitting a lot of wood. I can’t get over how many calories you can burn in an hour just splitting & stacking!
We have 8 or 9 25 year old bradford pears we are going to remove at deer camp. We are just waiting on it to get good and hot before we start.

Getting a little low on wood at the house so will prolly split enough of it to restock. Not sure how it works for the fire place but we dont generally use the fireplace unless it is cold.

2 mile walk jog treadmill today, Abs multiple types and machine, pushups 5 x 25 varied hand placement, back extension machine, normal grip pulldowns machine, and spider crawls.

The way this week has been I may take a week off before I start any workout program. It's been... a week

I did buy some trail running shoes yesterday though, so planning on doing some of that. Easy flat stuff at least at first, but I'm more motivated to go run in nature alone vs town.

Also I think I'm going to try for 170 instead of 180. Maybe 175. Not sure yet. Also looking at trying a crossfit gym, at least to get started right on form and stuff, but I do need the structure of a schedule to go things too

Sounds good I loved CrossFit, it was just expensive when our family was going. You can get smoked in a hurry!! Great workouts especially if you have a good coach that’s helping with form

I would ideally like someone/somewhere that can work with me on all facets of fitness. Like nutrition, strength, flexibility, cardio, body composition ect. I don't really care what the scale says. I have another gym in mind that's even in a better spot I want to too. CrossFit does seem like a workout I might like, never have liked just lifting or just running. But I'll go hard playing a sport or something like that

If I were still coaching I’d volunteer to do all that for you, couldn’t be there physically but that’s not really needed if you have motivation and can keep accountable to another human. I gave up coaching and training people about 3 years ago though, got tired of explaining to people how to get out of their own way, and also majority of peoples perspective of what hard actually is is severely off.

trail running is amazing
The problem is staying on the trail. All the cool stuff is off trail like benches, thermal hubs, oak flats, etc. Cant just run by that stuff, gotta go check it out. Wife gets frustrated when we go hike because I always end up off trail looking at spots to kill stuff even when I know I will never hunt there.
