My 2nd doe this week. Shot this one behind my house. I started bow hunting/saddle hunting last year and didn't get one down that my kids could come track with me (gut shot one and the coyotes got the entire deer).

They were super excited to get in the woods and help me find this doe. My boy was ecstatic. I had told him before I went out to hunt that if I saw a deer, I was going to shoot it and come get him to help me find it. He was so giddy and couldn't wait (and yes, it was his idea to take a picture with his foot on the deer).

I shot both of my does this year with a Rage Trypan. The first one didn't bleed hardly at all. This one was an entirely different story. The blood trail was heavy. She only went about 50 yds. She was quartering to me just a touch. So, I put the shot further up on her shoulder and got a pass through.

My goal this year was to fill up our freezer and get some experience bowhunting/saddle hunting before turning my attention to intentionally trying to put down a buck.

It just doesn't get any better than bow hunting from a saddle. Having a blast.IMG_1279-1.jpegIMG_1286-1.jpegIMG_1282-1.jpeg59226922219__40C93105-4199-49CF-A968-C0CD125F9653-2.jpegIMG_1289-1.jpegIMG_1290-1.jpeg

Congratulations! Money cannot buy the memories were created in the field with family. I can vividly remember being just as giddy as your son when I was his age and can see it now on the faces of my children.

Way to get it done I will say I hit within a inch and a half to the rear of your entry point with a rage a couple weeks ago and didn’t even make it through the shoulder.

Just curious, what’s your draw length, drawl weight, and total weight of your arrow?

I’m drawing 28.5 inches, 66 pounds, my overall arrow weight is 485-490g, and the shot was 23 yards.

It’s a 70 lb bow but I’m only drawing 55lbs 30.5” draw. Total arrow weight is only about 450 grains. I don’t think more speed or shaft weight would have made a difference. The end of the shaft split and folded up like an accordion. Like I had shot a brick wall. I may shoot the same setup next year with hundred grain inserts. I forget the distance but it was around 35 yards. There’s the shoulder blade but then there’s that thick spot and I had to have hit it. Been on a mission to kill her since but haven’t seen her yet. I’m sure she’s still around as there was zero blood trail and only blind on about the first 1/2” of shaft.
