Who is using 8mm with a Madrock and are there any concerns.

Been using the 8mm until I realized it was out of spec and it raised a bit of concern in my head.

I messed around with other ascenders with the 8mm. The ATC didn’t hold. The Mammut 2.0 didn’t hold. Only a friction hitch and a figure 8 would hold. Add a little moisture and it would probably get worse. Every ascender I tried was rock solid with the 9mm.

I carry 25 foot of Rescue Tech in my pack as a back up for rappel as it works well for that and takes up little space. I am pretty sold on 9mm Canyon Elite for my bridge, SRT rope, and Tethers. I do use the Rescue Tech with a Kong Duck for a linemans when sticking.

I was using the rescue tech for rappel rope until I realized it was out of spec. I also have the canyon elite and like it . The rescue Tech just fit better in my pouch. As for now I’ve switched over to the 9mm Canyon Elite. Not sure what I’ll do with the Rescue Tech. Maybe use it as a backup with a figure 8.

I've used it out of spec in the past, but with a prussik backup (which is technically also out of spec). It worked fine but I've reconsidered due to life<rope cost.

The current solution has been using an ATC/autoblock, for smooth, in spec descents. (And at lower cost)

The ATC is spec with 8mm but without a auto block I couldn’t get it to hold with the 8mm.
