I've heard the Ropeman 1 is rated for 10mm+ but I swear I've seen/heard people talking about using it with 9mm as well. I only ask since there seems to be a lot of negative feedback on the Ropeman 2 tearing up the rope with its teeth.

9mm and the Ropeman 1 Safe?

Ropeman 1 is for 10mm and larger. I believe up to 13mm. If you are using 9mm or 8mm, the preferred device is the CT Roll’n lock or the Kong Duck.
Another option is Petzl’s Nano Traction, has teeth, but not the strong spring of the Ropeman 2.
I think the thickness of the carabiner is part of the equation. If the beener is 1 mm thicker or smaller does that not equate to different rope size?
I'm on year 3 of this rig and I see nothing dangerous about it.
That being said. I AM out of spec, and I do weigh out my risk factor that I can tolerate, so I am not recommending anyone else does what I do.

So mine too is out of spec, but the Canyon elite is 9mm(seems bigger) and looks good when weighted. By looks good, I mean there are still half of the biting section of the RM1 that are still outside. Both of these have a fairly large biner too so there is that point that Tom made. Both the black and the orange ropes are listed as 9mm. I think the black was really 8.6 and the canyon elite was like 9.4 when I measured them. Frankly, I don’t like the ropemans at all. They are ok for a lineman’s belt, but when weighted heavily, they are a pain to release IMHO. I love the thing that came with my Hawk saddle and I use it.

I think we've discussed before when this has come up but exactly my findings as well. I am running an oval carabiner that is overall thicker than most. No issues for me. Also, I back it up with a prusik for extra piece of mind.
Everyone has a different appetite for risk.
I find the Ropeman 1 to be an excellent device. It is an ascender, and under heavy load it should be hard to release. I like that it is compact, lightweight, quiet, strong and reliable. Take load off and it frees up pretty easily. Ropeman doesn't refer to carabiner thickness or diameter in their spec, so we use at our own risk. But I agree, you would think fatter carabiners would factor in. Spec calls for 10mm and larger ropes but many use them with 8mm and 9mm successfully. I have Ropemans on my 10mm and larger ropes, but use CT Rollin Locks on the 8mm stuff.
The CT RollNLock has a sleeve between the two plates, so the teeth mash the rope against the sleeve and not the biner. Better design, IMO, since functionality (and thus safety) is not dependent on the size of the biner you use. Still only 4kn though. That's probably why it's rated for 8mm+ ropes. You can see the sleeve clearly in this pic:
The Kong Duck is the same way. Much better design IMO. And alot of guys don’t even use them the right way when adjusting them. I used to use Ducks when I first started but after loading them heavily I didn’t like the little tooth mark they left in my ropes. I went to a friction hitch a couple years ago and haven’t looked back. Depending on which one you choose, they tend just as easily as the mechanicals and don’t do any damage to the rope. To each his own as is life.

It's a diy utilibridge. It's okay but I think that I prefer the webbing bridge. I never adjust bridge length these days so I really don't need a utilibridge.
