I was shopping at Menards today, and I saw this strap-on seat for $39. I thought it might make a nice saddle hunting platform, and thought I'd share.

Take the pad off it would work great but its more metal. I want the least metal i have too plus its another thing to strap n and lug in. Stay light and slow

It looks like it would work. It looks heavy too but if you are young and strong and have a limited budget try it out. I do believe there are better options... just more costly. Aluminium is lighter of course.

One potential problem is no way to cam it over to get it super tight. That could probably be fixed by moving the strap to the seat but then the seat needs to be lowered...

I haven't even bought a saddle yet, so I won't be buying a platform yet, either. I just saw it and thought it might work. I realize it won't be as light as aluminum. I didn't think you would need to cam it over, just use a ratchet strap (which I realize isn't as quiet...) I just thought it was a relatively cheap platform, compared to the aluminum ones.

I'm not so sure I qualify as "young and strong" anymore, either...

I believe either @essdub or @Maustypsu tested that as a platform in detail. I believe the results were less than awe inspiring. Your head is in the right place though! You'll be a saddle hunter in no time!

Yeah. I have it in a pre-set tree with a ratchet strap (maybe two) on it. Works fine for the price.

I forget the name of the guy that was the first that talked about using a platform with a saddle, but it happened long before You Tube. Most of the truly innovated ideas and modifications we use today (steps on a ratchet, rope climbing gear, etc...) came from folks that we seldom hear about. Just like the" Klemz" platform - he was the first (I believe) to use a modern tree stand seat as a platform - I just tweaked it and came up with my version.
