I guess we will discover whether saddlehunter.com has any effect on kestrel sales.
If this new saddle is better kestrel sales will plummet

Ok. Sounds like a plan. But I don't understand the logic here: wouldn't a better saddle sell more anyway? You linked me to this post so I guess you wanted me to see it. I got a little red saddlehunter flaggy when I signed in that linked me to this post. Be cool Ont and keep swanging.

10-4 I was curious because I didn’t see the @sh in the quote sparrowhawk used of Ontariofarmer’s.
I was curious. I must have missed something somewhere. Anyways moving on.

So about this Mantis.
Did you put a belay loop on the front for SRT @Erniepower I remember you saying how you wished saddles had one at saddleplooza? Or is this still a secret?

I tried that, (you can buy buckles with belay loops built in to see into any saddle you already own) but without incorporating the leg loops into the belay structure, it was very uncomfortable. Have you ever tried to rapel from the riggers belt? It sucks. Its way better to just use the bridge. Then you are fully supported by the saddle instead of choked by the belt

That makes sense. I was curious about a belay loop for a slightly different reason. I have found that I really like being able to attach to the wild edge stepps (Cain method) when climbing and using that to move my linemans belt around limbs. With the kestrel I have a carabiner going through the same loop the buckle is in, but that makes me a little nervous because if the buckle comes undone then I would only be attached to one side of the saddle.

Several guys have went with an adjustable bridge on the kestrel for rappelling and the same would work well on the mantis.whether you are rappelling or using the Cain method.

Man this thread is out of control. I can't even hardly keep up with reading it! It's like a forest fire in the saddle Hunter community.

Congratulations to the Tethrdnation team for creating the Mantis. I know the feeling. 34 years ago when New Tribe was born, my partner and I created the first really comfortable tree climbing saddle for ourselves. Everything New Tribe does begins as a DIY solution to problems nobody has solved before.

It was a hunter who came to New Tribe asking if we could design a saddle for hunters. Everything we do for hunters is made with input from hunters themselves. It is because we listen to you that saddle hunting has taken such a surge forward in the past few years.

Mantis did not arise in a vacuum. I’m glad you mentioned that Mantis was developed from a Kestrel clone. That makes the Aero Hunter Kestrel your ancestor. Your product is competition for us, and that’s a great thing. Competition drives innovation, and gives the community more choices. And it tells us we’re on the right track with the new designs we have underway.

We love seeing the entrepreneurial spirit flourish in your work. But a strong product can stand on its own without putting its competition down. So be nice, friends. We’re all in this together. Respect your ancestor and your path will lead to success.

BTW—Aero Hunter/New Tribe is not a big corporation. We are eight souls working out of a tiny shop in rural Oregon.

Absolutely agree! You guys are not only a top notch company for hunters but the Tree service In general. I love my Kestrel and intend to be a customer for life. My next saddle from you guys will be for working in trees. Monkey Beaver! Thanks for all your hard work.

@Gibbon no one involved in the creation of the mantis is bashing the kestrel. It’s a great saddle. There will be a lot of comparisons made. You should be proud. Right now the kestrel is the saddle that all other saddles are compared to. That’s a good place to be.

I don’t think that was the message they were relaying but I could be wrong. I will say it is important to keep it all in perspective.

I linked @Sparrowhawk and changed my mind and edited out the link afterwards You might say I repented of my action . I did not want to make it personal.
I like New Tribes and the Kestrel but I expect this site has a big effect on Kestrel sales.
I originally included his name because he disagreed with the saddlehunter marketing effect.

I guess we will see who is correct about the saddlehunter.com effect
I wish New Tribes the very very best in sales and success
The appreciate the grace exhibited by Sophia from New Tribes
I have purchased 4 saddles from them

I’m sure aerohunter has had the same effect on saddlehunter. When I joined saddlehunter, the evo was about to come out. If it wasn’t for that saddle being a commercial available option, I may have never took the plunge to get involved with saddle hunting. We are all a family and help innovation grow. We all do our part and play a roll in helping each other.

Absolutely. The Kestrel is a fantastic saddle that will continue to sell very well I expect. I wish nothing but the best for AeroHunter and appreciate what they have done for the saddle community over the years.
